(Adventure) The Haunted Halls of Stonepike

Sir Ishmael pulled Violet from his belt, in case anything would happen. He would put her back in place after their investigation of the crypts. There was more than a little nervousness in the halfling, but whatever anxiety he had was washed away by the presence of the stalwart, scythe-bearing dwarf beside him.

"Let us enter and be done with this area" he said without trace of fear in his voice.

"'greed on tha'n," Sturm says, without a trace of having-thought-it-through in his voice. He readies his scythe hopefully, and follows behind Ishmael into the crypts.

Moving into the Crypr Chamber, all are filled with a somber reverance. Here were hundreds of years of Family. The heads of stone coffins showed from the wall, with plaques and runic inscriptions around the rim of each.
Upon the floor, small braziers stood, the remains of incense, some long burned, some no more than a day old, stained the insides, the smell of mingling herbs hanging lightly in the chamber.

There was no sign of any destroyed graves, such as might exist with some Undead. There were no large cracks in the walls or ceilings. The Crypts seemed innocent of any connection to the Beast.

Thurgan felt relieved as he moved through the crypt. The honor and duty within the crypt made his dwarven pride and confidence swell. After finishing a cursory inspection, Thurgan made way back out of the crypt. He assisted in re-sealing the doors in hopes that it would not be disturbed by whatever was killing those here.

As he entered, Rurik knelt and said a small prayer to Chennet' before investigating. Upon finding nothing that would suggest the presence or absence of the beast, Rurik said another small prayer and left, also helping to seal the doors as he went.

"P'raps'f we could find a way dun that stream, tha'd be the nex' place t'look..."

((OOC: Alright, I'm finally around...being glared at by Aranel(Kat) at the moment. Sorry to say, but I'm going to have to pull out. Do what you want with Telerin...NPC him, assume he doesn't exist, kill him off...whatever. Again, sorry.))

"Let's go then," Thurgan replied.

OOC: small bump. Is this gone? Should Thurgan return to town?

OoC:Gods, such a suggestion in my game...I have had some bad luck as far as my comp goes recently, my apologies.
AMG had bowed out of this (and his other PbPs, it would seem...). dpdx is on a 'dicey' schedule as he put it. Let's see if 'Mr Lightning-Finish-Games' can get this one on Fast Track mode again...We will assume that Telerin and the Wolf are returning to the surface/gone. XPs will be adjusted accordingly (in the favor of the others...).

Walking down the long passageway on the way back from the crypts, minds pondering just what could be lurking down hereThurgan Aranel and Ishmael hear a shrill scream, cut off abruptly.

Aranel is sure that it came from the direction of the Treasury...

Racing down the passage, with no other dwarves insight, the five adventurers see a dwarf stumble out of a passage, looking behind and holding a Waraxe in shaky hands. Spotting the band, he yells 'the Fiend! It just killed Urgroth!!! It Be in the Hall behind me!'
The young dwarf starts to quiver and the smell of urine comes strongly off of him. The passage that he refers to is a long one that turns sharply about 30 feet down, the gutteral light of torches throwing long shadows...

In fact, Sturm can see movement in the Shadow. It looks as if something large and winged is standing over something smaller, and Thurgan can clearly hear the sound of ripping flesh...

Thurgan - Init: +2; AC: 18; HP: 29/29; Atk: W-axe +6 (1d10+2), X-bow +5 (1d8+1)

Thurgan saw the young dwarf, and felt anger. This had to stop, he thought. Thurgan set off at a run, crossbow in hand. The sound of rending flesh, brought red to his eyes . . . he could actually hear his heart pounding in his ears.

OOC: Move 20’ if the creature is visible to him, he’ll take a shot with the crossbow (+4 [+5 w/in 30'] 1d8 +1 dmg [+2 w/in 30'). Otherwise he will continue to close.
