(Adventure) The Haunted Halls of Stonepike

Ishmael slams Violet into the beast <hit,10HP> even as it lunges past him and down the hallway, towards the waterway...

OoC:Attacks of Opp

IC
Ishmael hits the monster again <8HP> as it leaves, as does Sturm <11HP> and Aranel <6HP>, though Thurgan and Rurik fail to connect.

The Cloaker wings off West down the hallway and disappears into the gloom.

There is still one dead Cloaker upon the floor to the Treasury <The treasury doors remain intact>.

The battle finished, Sir Ishmael did what any of his Order would: tend to the wounded. He approached the fallen Stonepike Dwarf first, holstering Violet and drawing the healing wand.

Examining the body, he hoped desperately that the guard was not dead...

Alas, Sir Ishmael finds that the Guard is indeed dead. Most of his throat has been torn out...he second Guard moves cautiously up, terror still upon his face and examines the Cloaker body.'Is it really dead, Lords? I saw...saw the second 'un fly off inna direction of the Crypts.'

"Then it's ta the crypts we need ta go. Go alert the guard, lad and we'll be seein' about the critter," Thurgan offered in as consoling a voice he could. Perhaps by giving the dwarf a task to do he would get control of himself . . . and they could use the help if there were many more of these critters.

"He is lost" Sir Ishmael muttered sadly, closing the dwarf's terror stricken eyes and putting the guard's cloak over the corpse (or whatever he can use to shroud it).

He arose with a grim expression on his face. These creatures must be stopped. "Tell the Lord of Stonepike that his domain hath an infestation of cloakers." he said to the guard.

"To the crypts then..."

Rurik: HP 21/21, Waraxe (regular) +5/1d10+3, Connectivity - AOL/shaky

Rurik takes a second to gather himself, having missed the beast both times. "Easy, 'ere..." he murmurs to himself as he follows the beast to the crypts.

Rurik hears Sir Ishmael as he explains the 'infestation of cloakers' to the guard. Cautiously, he asks the knight, "'Ow many times c'n that thing throw shadows? Izzet jus' the one time per day, er whut?"

[Rurik will be attacking with his regular bonus (no power attack, as noted above) from here on out. I got AOL working, so I should be semi-regular for a while.]

The halfling mused for but a moment amidst his strides before answering Demonbane. "I remember not exactly how oft these aberrations use their shadow magicks. The tale of the halfling explorer, Derrin the Quick, doth not mention this, only what they were ere he felled them. Methinks it would be safe to assume that this power comes to them at their whim."

When they came to the crypts, a thought occured to Sir Ishmael. He concentrated, bringing forth unto himself his ability to discern the presence of lingering evil auras.

Sturm harrumphs frustratedly. "Tell Stonepike i'll be o'er soon, 's well." He looks off after the cloaker. "'ese wags ain' so tough when they ha'n't got a jump on ye, 'n this one's wounded fer what's more. Less 'e's got six buddies in 'ere, we'll 'ave no trouble."

Thurgan - Init: +2; AC: 18; HP: 29/29; Atk: W-axe +6 (1d10+2), X-bow +5 (1d8+1)

"Well, guess th' sooner we get after 'em, the less time it's got ta round up its buddies," Thurgan said having recovered his crossbow and reloaded it. "we ready?"

OOC: This is Aranel. Bugger. Can't believe I missed that, sorry >.<

Ic: Aranel had reacted mostly on instinct each and every time. But now it was time to go hunting... As they passed the surviving Guard she rested a comforting hand on his shoulder. "Best not to look...for now the best you can do for him is see his spirit reaches the right place. And have others prepare him for the crypts." After that she quickly followed the others, moving as fast as she could to catch up.

Getting rid of the blood and fresh meat might also discourage more of these...creatures.
As she caught up with the others outside the crypt, she caught her breath back and looked to sir Ishmael. He seemed to be concentrating, meaning she would wait to ask why they were waiting. Though that in itself explained why.

Since Telerin had gone she could only really talk to herself it seemed. Ah well, no harm there..."Er...are we sure it went this way?" she asked Thurgan in a quiet voice. "And how do we know theres no crack in the ceiling in here letting it bug-...go somewhere else?" she asked in the same lowered voice.
