(Adventure) The Island of Varras'zul (Manzanita Judging) (Concluded)

"I vote that we camp near the top of the stairs and go down in the morning. We can set up some sort of shelter from the rain using one of these walls."

/ooc Ah, ok, I wasn't really aware of how long this adventure will take. I was assuming approximately a week (since we are already on our 2nd night). Maybe, since wood normally floats, the better route would be to go "fishing" for the Holy symbol in the area of quicksand where Mona fell in. Rillain could spend an hour or 2 on that, and still get a night's rest.
Assuming that his camping suggestion is agreed upon, Rillian will get up early and spend a couple hours "fishing" for the holy symbol. He will also invite anyone, except Mona since he is trying to surprise her, who happens to be awake to help. Let me know if you need details on how the "fishing" will be accomplished. Also note that Rillian will be exceedingly careful not to fall in.

Scun will offer his fishing net to Rillian if he wants to fish for Mona's holy symbol. Otherwise, he will look around the ruin for a suitable shelter area for the group. Aside from the quicksand, it seems safer here (at least from jungle creatures)

Rasereit is beginning to smell a bit (rather, a lot) from the sweat, dirt, and blood. He considers taking a dip in some sort of river nearby, but instead lays his gear under the shelter over the camp and steps out into the pouring rain for an outer layer wash. He returns to the shelter and shakes the water off his body a short distance from the actual camp site. "Hah! Y'know, Ah kin make soap outta urine if ye want, mates. 'Tis a well-known trick out away from society. Got to stay clean, neh? Ha harr! Ah'm jus' playin', friends, m'pardon, miss. Ha harr!" He bellows loudly; the echoes of his laughter bounce painfully into the party's ears. "Well, if we're all set up, Ah'll take the first watch. O' course, Ah might be o' better use later on, when 'tis real dark. Ah had a nice little rest earlier, so don't ye worry about meh lack o' sleep."

OOC: Basically, Razh will do any watch needed, but since nobody's called watches yet, he'll take the initiative and start the ball rolling.

After a short and cautious circuit of the area surrounding the stairs, Scun came upon a suitable shelter for the party against the rain. On a slight rise was a huge rock that was shaped a piece of a shell. It jutted out of the ground like a curved rending claw, rendering the muddy ground beneath its overhang free of rain. Marsh floor was still wet but at least it was shelter against the elements. The half-orc gathered the rest of the party in this site where they set up camp.

Mona set up her tent as usual, displeased by the fact that it was both wet in and outside. But she muttered nary a complaint when she entered it, mentioning to the others to call upon her when her turn at the watch came up.

Rasereit "cleansed" himself with the rain. The water was frigid, practically soul numbing but the hardy dwarf shrugged it off. After his shower, he took up the first watch of the eve. Try as he might, his visibility (and everyone else's) was limited by the fog that remained in the area.

After a few hours, it was time for him to awaken the next person on watch.

ooc: since it was unstated, I am assuming that you don't have a campfire.

Razh trudges over to Scun and wakes him. "Oy, 'tis very dark outside, almost pitch black. An' the fog don' help a bit. But you should be better off with yer dark-seein' eyes than these blokes. Why don' ye take the next watch? Ah'm turnin' in meself. 'Night, mate." Razh assumes that Scun doesn't mind being "forced" into a watch. If he does, Razh will just wake up someone else, probably Rillian and/or Mona, and suggest that s/he start a fire.

OOC: I couldn't access the site for a few days. Anyone else have that problem?

OOC: Same here.

Ogrin prefers to rest after his ordeal in the swamp and will offer to take one of the early morning watches.

The downpour slows to a drizzle that eve. The fog, on the other hand, persisted.

Scun's and Rillian's watches were uneventful and undisturbed. The sense-numbing effect of the marsh began to eat at their minds, however. The fog made it almost impossible to see anything. The rain made it impossible to hear anything. Scun took some comfort in the fact that these also worked in their favor, concealment-wise. But then, should anything be waiting for them... then they may sense the trap too late.

When Rillian awoke Nezrak for the early morning watch, he made preparations to carry out his surprise for Mona. With Scun's permission, he took the half-orc's fishing net.

The fog made it difficult for him to look for the area where he and Mona had sunk into. The light of early morning could not pierce the ever-present rainclouds above the swamp. But then, he had time and some degree of caution. Several hours into his search, he thought he found the spot he was looking for. He looked for the wet pieces of paper that Mona threw aside, but he could not find them. But the almost invisible tracks in the area were probably theirs.

It took sometime to get used to the fishing net. He had to learn how to cast, draw and fold it by himself. This took some time, but Rillian was a quick-witted fellow. He managed a method of his own and attempted to fish for the holy symbol in the fog and darkness.

Meanwhile, in the camp. Nezrak shouldered the watch for a few hours. After he was done, he awoke Ogrin for his turn at the early morning watch. Now fully rested, the elf then sat down to prepare his spells for the new day.

*************************

A completely soaked Rillian made his way back to the camp an hour or so after grey dawn began to break through the clouds. Several hours of "fishing" bore no fruit. Furthermore, he got lost on his way back since the fog allowed little in the way of seeing landmarks and even intuiting direction. It was a tiny miracle that he got back after only one hour of being lost. He would've stayed even longer, but he knew that the party would make their descent into the ruins as soon as possible.

By the time of his return, Mona had finished her morning prayers to Hyrag and had taken the reins of watching the camp from Ogrin. She insisted that Ogrin take more time to rest from what had happened and took the watch from him when her prayers were done. At this time, Scun was in the middle of his own devotions to Mongrel.

"I thought you were asleep. Where did you go?" she asked upon seeing Rillian walk into the camp.

ooc: i'll need your prepared spells for the day, Nezrak and Scun
