Without coming closer and a more thorough examination, Rasereit was unable to tell where the bite came from. He did see though that Ogrin's chest was rising and falling with shallow breaths.
As the party moved forward to check upon Ogrin, the grinding sound returned. This time, it came from behind the party. Already on the alert, the party from Orussus turned as one to face the threat.
"Look out! A Xorn!"
Emerging swiftly from the ground like a fish out of calm water was a pebbly-skinned, symetrical creature with a single gaping mouth atop its body. The gnome-sized monstrosity had three clawed arms, three stone-lidded eyes and three stout legs.
Rasereit and Nezrak
had heard of these "Xorns" before. Besides name, appearance, diet (precious metals and stones) and typical territories (underground), however, they knew little else of these rock monsters.
Though Nezrak flanked the creature with Scun, the placement of the Xorn's eyes as well as its own strange form allowed it to keep track of both grey elf and half orc. In short, they could not get the benefits of flanking against it.
Despite this, Nezrak managed to inflict damage upon the creature. Elven steel barely pierced its pebbly hide, drawing a little blood upon exit. (Attack: 20 +1= 21, Crit: 16 +1 =17, Damage: 5 +1 -5= 1 damage)
Nezrak
found that the edge of his weapon had a diminished effect on the creature. He surmised that perhaps a bludgeoning weapon would have a better effect on the creature's stony skin.
