(Adventure) Trek to the Vinyard...

Thurgan nodded at Troi and moved to the door as quietly as possible. When he arrived, Thurgan looked over the area around the door for possible trouble and at the floor for any indications of recent use (perhaps bloody footprints). He then checked to see if the door was locked (again as quietly as possible). If it wasn't he looked back to Troi's position and nodded again to him, motioned with his hand opneing the door and a five count countdown. He then started the count down with his free hand (five, four, three, two . . .).

After helping Velbrik barricading the door, Zoe stays close behind it, keeping her ears open, occasinally looking as Velbrik and the kid.

As Thurgan heads for the door, Troi looks around the hallway while maintaining his position and tries to find any tracks that might be around.

The Gameroom

Velbrik goes about barracading the room, along with Zoe, the Bard telling the child a Tale as he does so, which seems to calm him a bit, even bringing a smile to his little face.
Rinaldo searches about room, looking for anything useful. He finds a set of darts (6 in total) that might serve as a weapon <tiny weapon, 1Point Piercing, 10' Incrememnts>, as well as several well-made games (Masterwork game sets, 4 i total). As well, he notices that there is one window, though it is currently shuttered.

The Hallway

Thurgan opens the door, while Troi and Felix wait, carefully watching for any signs of danger. roi notes signs of muddy prints, both booted and barefoot, these looking like those that the orcs might make.
Opening the door, the trio sees that a dining room sits upon the other side, a large table and several chairs in evidence. The chairs are thrown about, as well as several upturned smaller serving tables. Most of what once formed the setting for the family is in disarray, silverware lying upon the ground, plates and serving ceramics smashed upon the floor. There is no sign of any orcs or any surviving Vingarius family or staff about.
The far side of the room has an open doorway, and the smel of burning food wafts towards you...

Rinaldo take a look at the dart.

"I'll take those, but remind me to give them back if I didn't use them. I have nothing to throw except a dagger and I never know when I will want to keep someone away from me."

Then Rinaldo take a chair and start to do the watch at the window.

Troi - Initiative: +3; AC: 16; HP: 8/8; Weapon: Whip +0, 1d3+1

"Damn." Troi mutters under his breath.

He points to himself, then to the doorway, then to Thurgan, then to Felix.

Uncoiling his whip enough for it to be usable at a moment's notice, Troi carefully makes his way through the room, attempting to not disturb any of the debris. Once to the door, he will cautiously take a quick look in, trying to locate the source of the smell and find out if there is anything dangerous in the next room.

Move Silently +3, Listen +3, Spot +4, Search +2.

[Edit: Added combat stats in title. Added skill bonuses that may be important.]

Thurgan nodded to Troi and followed a two second count after Troi departed. Thurgan held his cross bow out and ready to fire as he carefully stepped around the debris in the room - wanting to make as little noise as possible.

Felix Carefully follows his two companions and noticing the smell indicates the far doorway with a questioning look on his face.

The Dining Hall

Troi picks his way cautiously through the debris, whip ready, with Thurgan fingering the trigger of his crossbow and looking about the room for danger even as they travelled towards the open doorway. Felix follows behind, keeping an eye on the rear door as he does, glancinh between it and the one that the companions were approaching.
Troi cautiously peeks his head around into the next room, noticing a fair bit of smoke coming from that chamber as well. The room is a Kitchen, though ne in which much chaos had recently reigned. The floor was covered with blood, as was the hallway leading to the Dining Room. There were (mercifully) no sign of bodies in evidence and the smell and smoke was coming from a large kettle sitting over a large fireplace at the far end of the kitchen. It seems that someone was cooking when the attack came and whatever it was is now burned and smoking.

thurgan suddenly hears something scrambling to the rear of the group and turns, noting that neither Felix nor Troi heard it.
Moving across the Dining Room was a hideously bestial orc, a long blade in hand, sneaking towards the Companions.

<The Orc is 20' away at this point>

Thurgan has an action prior to Initiative, the below (you are not sure when the orc acts, of course).

Thurgan
Troi
Felix

The Gameroom

While Rinaldo and Velbrik search the room and try and calm the child, Zoe continues to barracade the room. Zoe peers out of the shuttered window, seeing only Darkness and rain. Suddenly, she senses something foul and a second later, a massive force slams into the shutters, the head of a huge hammer splinterring through the window. The child starts to scream in terror.

<Zoe is 5 feet away from the window, Rinaldo is 15;, Velbrik is about 10' away, as is the little boy>

Velbrik, startled, fumbles for his bow, and calls, "Daryn! Don't panic; get under a table. We'll keep you safe!"

He loads his bow and waits for the hammer to withdraw, prepared to send the nocked arrow flying through the hole made by its passage.
