(Adventure) Trek to the Vinyard...

Moving South,South-East along the muddy track, you pass the fields behind, hoping to find the Vingarius Manor past the far hill.
Sure enough, cresting the small hill, you can see a dark shape looming out of the far side of a small valley. No light eminates from this, however. all is uneasily dark.
Lightning flashes and you see, for a brief second, the entirety of the Manor, whic is quite expansive, it would seem, with barns, out buildings and a corral along side the main house.

Rinaldo
You thought that you just saw something moving in the tall grasses to the left of the group, though on second look, nothing was there...damned Darkness.

Felix
It seemed that for a brief moment, there was a Light in one of the windows of the manorHouse, though this disappeared as soon as you noticed it.

Zoe
You saw something streak along the hill to the right, a low form that you sighted for a mere moment before it moved from sight. It was heading towards the manor House, though it will pass on the other side of a hedge row, obscuring your gaze, should it actually be heading in that direction.

Thurgan
Your Darkvision aids you in this damnable storm and in the brief flash of Lightning, you see...

..forms perhaps 6 or 7 of them, 100 feet off to the West, streaking towards you. They looked like orcs...no Wolves...no...
<You may call out what would be a reasonable message in 2 or 3 seconds>.
<Map to come,having trouble posting maps>

Rinaldo Troi

Zoe Thurgan .........................................ENEMIES <100'>

Felix Velbrik

<assume that Rinaldo and Troi are closest to the Manor, thus pointing
S-E, thus the shapes are coming from the right side of thurgan,Troi and Velbrik. They are spread out as far as thurgan saw, perhaps 10 feet between any two of them.

Pre- Thurgan's Warning

Thurgan looked to the right and left mostly trying to keep his head down in the storm. 'At least I'm shorter than the others, if lightning strikes maybe it will not strike me,' he thought. Then, as he looked to all the others to see who was tallest, he realized they all were riding horses who were equally tall . . . and some shapes to the west.

"Beware ta the West, creatures - 6 or 7 of 'em. We're in for a tussle," Thurgan called out. "We ridin' or facin'?"

OOC: Thurgan will dismount eagerly if the others do and aim his crossbow if he has time. If not, he draws rapier and waits to attack when they arrive.

"What the... hope it's only racoons"

I make my horse move 5 feets foward, so Troi will not be in the way between me and the creatures and I draw my dagger. I take a ready action: if any creature I can see are less than 30 ft from me, I throw my dagger.

OOC: I think I'm doomed to always end up with last initiative in any campaign Uriel DM's. Funny thing is, he ended up last in my campaign too :p.

Zoe halts her horse, keeping her eyes out to the west. "Seems like they're headed for the mansion. I defenitely think we should check them out now. They might be gone later, and this oppurtunity might not come back anywhere soon. We oughta be carefull though, these horses aren't trained for combat."

OoC:Just to make it clear for those with darkvision, the group of 6 or 7 was DEFINATELY heading right for you...
Thurgan has time to aim his crossbow and pop off a shot before melee ensues, yes.

OOC: I'm confused. The overview places them at 100' while they're within Darkvision range, which is 60'.

OOC: Darkvision is 60' beyond that which everyone else can see. So if normal visibility in the stowm was only 60' due to darkness, darkvision can see out to 120'.

Velbrik mumbles a curse under his breath. "If it's wolves, they'll tear our horses to pieces."

Velbrik dismounts as quickly as possible, and then draws his longsword.

That's defenitely NOT the way Darkvision works. Low-Light vision increases your regular sight. Darkvision is a special sight, independant from your regular sight. There's actually an example in the DMG (page 292) of a character with 60' Darkvision that's holding a lightsource with a 20' radius. He can see with his normal sight for 20' and with Darkvision for 40' beyond that.

ooc: I'll try and sort that out a little then :D, save confusion.

Felix snatches at his belt for a blunt stick and deftly strikes it as he brings it up in his hand. Brilliant light bursts from the stick as he raises it as some feat of alchemy causes a cold yellow green light to eminate from the rod.

Felix activates a Sunrod and holds it up to illuminate the area for those that cannot see hoping that the light might even scare any attacking creatures. If any creatures come within 30 feet (the brightest part of the light) he will drop the sunrod on the ground and prepare to fight
