[Adventure] Trouble in Moonwatch (Judge: THB) - Part II

"Yes, some of what you say makes sense. We need to be strong and ready. But let me ask you a question. Would we not be stronger by fighting together than we would by killing each other? If we fight together, there are many of us. If we fight each other, there are fewer of us. By fighting us, you weaken humanity. You are putting yourself on a course for the rajahs to win." Sheeva says, realizing the futility of her words, but trying anyway.

"The end? Are you calling death the end? Death is no end, it is just a new beginning. Where there is death, a new life will grow from it, even if it is only insects... and while the corpse are rotting, the soul is brought to the gods, where a new kind of life is awaiting you. Some souls will come back on Khorvaire, other will serve the gods, some might be use by the gods, all depend which god take your soul when you die. Maybe if you follow Khyber, he can destroy your soul, but it is a choice you made by follow the Dragon Below.

Personally, I have lived with death for a long time. I've healed many dying, I have guided the soul of many other towards the Host. We have seen Khorvaire ripping himself apart, we have seen people fight against each other, but as I would add something to what I said earlier:

You told us you want to unite humanity to fight against the upcoming darkness. How killing the refugee is bringing humanity together? How killing innocent will give us strength against an upcoming threat?"

"Yes, some of what you say makes sense. We need to be strong and ready. But let me ask you a question. Would we not be stronger by fighting together than we would by killing each other? Sheeva says, realizing the futility of her words, but trying anyway.

"Ah, excellent, at least once amongst you sees reason. Then you shall join us? We must convince first your friends, and then the rest. I have begun training the humans, orcs, and their half-breed offspring here to fight back, martial training. With your help, perhaps some arcane teachings could provide further aid" Jaryn asks

You told us you want to unite humanity to fight against the upcoming darkness. How killing the refugee is bringing humanity together? How killing innocent will give us strength against an upcoming threat?"[/COLOR]

"I was sparing those that refused. They could suffer under the darkness and be slowly killed by things far darker than walk through the world today, or I could end it quickly, mercifully, in one stroke." Jaryn says coldly.

"Who are you to choose for others? Do you think you have the right over the life of other? Do you think you have knowledge that even the gods doesn't have, a wisdom above all man? Have you found the meaning of the Prophecy?" asks River.

*I'm pretty sure he could kill me with one blow, just need to get some distance, maybe a few objects between us, maybe that trap door is still open, maybe I could hide in one of the previous rooms, maybe they'd forget about me, yeah, they'll forget me... NO! This is just the kind of thing that makes Roswyn better than me in court... Every time, I run and hide... What to do... uhh... UHH....*

Pok doesn't come out from behind Rumbum, and keeps what little distance he had between him and Jaryn. However he finally speaks up, The darkness should be safe. The courier uses his free hand to pull a scroll out of his robes, Khyber cult leader and associates are in violation of no less than one hundred and thirty different bureaucratic protocols. House Sivis has authorized me to personally collect the past due legal documents, fines, fees, surcharges, levies, taxes, tolls, and authorizations; Left unfinished or unpaid by Khyber cult leader and associates. As he reads from his list, Pok gains confidence. If you do not have all proper documentation and said remunerations, I'm charged with recovering and escorting Khyber cult leader and associates to the proper judicial district for trial. The gnome stops here, taking a breath and looking up at Jaryn expectantly. He drops his hood, showing the official diadem atop his head. During his reading the little gnome had puffed up, squared his shoulders, and leaned toward Jaryn. He'd stepped out from behind Rumbum, and stood proudly awaiting a response.

Jaryn chuckles a bit at Pok's words, "Khyber cares little for your laws little one" he says.

[sblock=Insight DC 18]
Some of your words, especially River's, seemed to affect Jaryn[/sblock]

The paladin stands, pacing away from you as he hefts his sword. "I have told you what I can, and you now know what you must know to stand in my place—if indeed that is your fate. I commend your bravery, friends. Now let us end this."

Pok and Sheeva reacted faster though.

Wait! shouts Pok, You don't have to do this, I can help you finish the paperwork. If you file the right forms, you could have the trial moved here, and claim the same rights and protections as the Flamists. Consider working within the established bureaucratic channels to resolve these disputes instead of the resource draining violence. While he speaks, Pok ensures Jaryn remains a captive audience. Surrounding the paladin with illusory vistas, thousands of followers, clerks busily cutting red tape, all at Jaryn's fingertips.

Pok doesn't wait for an answer, slave to gnomish instincts, his feet are already dragging his body toward cover. The little wizard hides while listening for Jaryn's reaction.

With almost precognitive senses, the human spins out of the blast from Sheeva, but he can't avoid the mental assault of the gnome.

The warrior patiently waits, "Come, prove your strength before the Eye of Khyber!" he taunts, sword held at the ready.

River walks toward Jaryn with an assurance he had not shown since he left Moonwatch. "Khyber will have no use of you once you will be defeated, so you told us. We will defeat you, but we will not kill you. We will then free your soul from the Dragon Below power and then, you'll be free to walk to path you choose. You will have the choice, that's is the true meaning of mercy."

He then look at Rumbum and Feall "Go on, and leave him alive. Arawai is with us." As he speaks, an aura of light starts to surround River body.
