River move away from the bowman and call Arawai to his help. His holy symbol flare into a bright light. The light move to the tentacles and englobe them and Lan. The tentacle become clumsy as Lan wounds starts to heal. Under all that stress, River starts to feels his primal instincts coming back to him.

[SBLOCK=OOC]Move: Shift to M8
Standard: Bane on Tentacle That should hit. -4 to attack and all defenses on the tentacles.
Free: Symbol of Perseverance. Lan is now at HSValue + 3 hp. No HS spent.
Minor: Longtooth Shifting. I gain +2 damages and Regeneration 2 while bloodied. Last until the end of the encounter.[/SBLOCK]

[SBLOCK=OOC]As Lan act just before River in the initiative order, he lost his turn doing nothing and got awaken at my round, but will just likely get hit again by the tentacle, get unconscious on next enemy turn and lose his next turn, again, because River act just after...

So, does Lan act after River now he is awaken just like he was delaying or it is the scenario above that apply?

If Lan can act before next enemy round, I change nothing to my round. If he will not act before the next enemy round, I will use an Healing Word instead of a Longtooth Shifting. That will mean Lan will get healed by my healing word a value of his HS value + 18, for a total of 43 hp (including the Symbol of Preservation power)... he would be 1 hp short of being at full hp. And that would cost him only 1 HS.[/SBLOCK]

[SBLOCK=OOC]Great, and with Lan +7 to Athletic/Acrobatic and -4 to all defenses of the tentacle, it should be easy for him to get out of the grasp.[/SBLOCK]

ooc - Lan acts after River now. (like he delayed)

[sblock=OOC]
I'm pretty sure that's not core rules.

Lan makes a dying roll on his turn, River goes, and Lan goes next round.

Lan might be conscious if a 20 dying roll is made, but he still only does that during his turn. IIRC, don't have my books here.

He uses his turn since he makes a dying roll on his turn.

[sblock=KD is right] By RAW, I should "lose my turn", making a death save at the end. If I roll a nat 20, I get to spend a healing surge, but otherwise make no other actions. His init spot should remain the same as it has been.

I have rolled this in the dice room and rolled a 12. Lan is stable (nor more death saves needed), but is still unconscious until River heals him.

NOTE: I am not arguing, simply stating what the RAW is. If R1 rules that Lan is only delayed (after reading this post), I will play by it, but will completely understand if R1 changes his mind and rules along with RAW.[/sblock]

[SBLOCK=OOC]As RAW, I think KD is right, but as with the 'Malinkirk combat rules' going a lot around (I use it myself), I think that is the kind of thing that I really don't mind. Renau1g will rule on that.

I hope Mal will not do too much the big head because I name the combat rule after him like other start to do it...[/SBLOCK]

With teh more free-form combat rules/initiative sets for the PbP genre, I'll go with allowing Lan to go after River (just like I would normally if you asked to go first). It's definitely a trade-off in order to keep games moving/preventing them from dying (which are the KSF of PbP IMO, moving the game forward) If this becomes abused I'll rethink things, but for now, it's fine that Lan goes after River. The problems with this rule are:

a) it's a house rule and not a rule on the Eberron pages (unless it gets voted in)

b) an unconsious PC is back up in the fight immediately, a stunned PC is out for a round. It seems a bit nonsensical in that regard. Unconsciousness doesn't mean anything this way (course, if we play where anyone can jump into init like we did for the first combat, it's a moot point).

Personally, I prefer to play via the rules, even if the bear gets my PC this round over it (like with the new errata for Sheeva's cloak, I wouldn't ask the Eberron judges to go change that, just because it was the rule when I started).

PS. reanau1g has just ruled, so we move on.

[SBLOCK=OOC]Good point about your unconscious vs stunned. I'll think about that for my own game. Let's move on now.[/SBLOCK]
