AI is going to hack us.

I actually have a comment on this! I order fast food all the time in the UK (less so recently but that's a different story), and I haven't had a wrong order for literally several years! My wife is working in the US atm, and gets wrong orders from fast food regularly. We order stuff pretty much the same way, but it's very clear that there's some kind of operational difference in the US that's leading to a much, much higher error rate, including her being given entirely the wrong order occasionally. I think somehow the US doing more takeout and less delivery, particularly via drive-thrus factors into this.

But I might be absolutely talking nonsense.
It's called people don't care, the jobs are just temporary until they get something else, or like the manager has an in with a probation officer or something.

Anecdotal. I order fast food in the UK and I've had a few wrong orders over the past few years, ranging from missing / substituted items up to an entirely different meal.

I witnessed a friend's interaction with Gemini last night, and I was floored.

He had a simple question about fashion. In Gemini's response it included a bit about how it's wrong to objectify women, which really had nothing to do with what he was asking about. But he then went on for another five minutes with the app trying to justify what he was asking and how he wasn't using that information to objectify women.

It's not a real person, you can just close the app.

Nope, not nonsense. If my order isnt completely wrong, its ice cold; and I live 3-5 minutes from either McD's or BK. Even pizza shops are in on the racket. I ordered a Turkey Club the other day and got no bacon. Its an epidemic

Across the West (and in the East too), we've seen a decline in the value put on critical thinking and analysis skills, and it was never super-high, even when it peaked in probably the early 1970s. And that decline isn't just in educational curriculums and so on, but across the culture as a whole
Having been teaching for around 30 years, I have observed this transition first hand. Moreover, at least in the UK, it is a direct consequence of education policy, with the emphasis moving from critical thinking to rote learning. Of course, some teachers have ignored policy. Which may have something to do with why I’ve never been promoted.

Marriage is an archaic institution that's been falling apart since the 70's - long before AI showed up. But that's what people do, right? They see something they don't like and identify it as a "social problem" then pins the blame for the problem on some new thing.

I remember when TV was getting blamed for all of society's ills. Alcohol was a media BoogieMan for more than one generation. Hey! Remember when D&D was spreading Satanism like wildfire?
