D&D 5E Al-Qadim Moving Through the Flame

OOC: Could Harun's Shape Water ability do anything to cool the water? It can freeze a five foot cube. I'd imagine that would help...

GM: Yeah that makes sense tglassy. I think the shape water cantrip lets you have 2 ongoing uses of it...

You freeze the water, provided that there are no creatures
in it. The water unfreezes in 1 hour.
If you cast this spell multiple times, you can have no
more than two of its non-instantaneous effects active at
a time, and you can dismiss such an effect as an action.

So you can narrate how you use that to cool off the pond faster.

"Wait a moment, I will help cool the water."

Feeling a connection with the water, Harun exerts his will, freezing a large block of it which floated to the surface. The boiling water began melting the ice quickly. Once it was melted, Harun created another block. This one melted slower, but melt it did.

"This might take a few moments," he said as he made another block.

Once the water was cool enough not to scald, Harun wades into the water, swimming to the bottom to find what he could find.

Swimming past the hydra's corpse, still leaking black blood, Harun found it – a brass sphere half-submerged in the silt at the pond's bottom. Upon returning to the surface and wiping off the sphere, it is unlike any treasures you've come across before.

The sphere is still warm to the touch. It was created by multiple serpents sculpted of brass that were painstakingly interwoven by the smith, each engraved with geometric ornamentation on its back. At one time, they may have been able to move, like some kind of a puzzle box. However, it is quite old with a faint patina tarnishing the brass and locking the serpents into place. Moreover, it seems to have been ruptured from the inside and the heat of the event fused some of the brass serpents together.

Once upon a time, the sphere looks like it held something extremely hot, for the core of the sphere has a hollowed out section with blackened walls.

GM: Salahuddin VLAD the Destroyer does not recognize the sphere as genie-kind's work.

Harun tglassy is reminded of his own clockwork toys slightly from the sphere's sophisticated construction.

Salahuddin had been thinking about his Genie Prison. It would take him forever to complete the device only working in his spare time. But there was little he could do about that and he didn't need it just yet. He need to find out the name of one efreeti working with the white robed mages. As he ponders the problem the group arrives at the oasis. Still absorbed in his own thoughts he did not notice the warning signs. He steps back in shock as the hydra bursts from the water. He pulls the flowing steel rod from his belt. He begins to speak the words of power channeling the arcane energies. As suddenly as the creature appeared it was slain by his companions. His words fall from his lips and the energies dissipate.

Salahuddin turns his attention to the surrounding expecting another ambush. When one doesn't materialize he turns back to the others and the object found in the oasis. It was not genie made. But it was arcane in some fashion. When Harun suggests studying the sphere the Sha'ir nods.

"Perhaps I could have a look with you? It reminded me of a genie prison, but this was not made by a Sha'ir."

Lal claps his hand at the ice blocks. "Oh well done!"

The sphere retrieved, he looked at the item, fascinated

"Oh, this would sell for a very pretty rupee back home - look at the intricate design! Very fine work... Now... this is clearly not my area of expertise but... could that device once have held the Hydra? The serpents, the heat... A prison for it, used to bring it here?" Lal looked at the others, pausing meaningfully at Salahudin and Akilah

Amina nodded to herself, looking around. The creature couldn't survive here on its own; that much was clear. It was confined to the water by its nature, but the oasis by itself couldn't sustain it. It was probably from a place with much more water, where it could move more freely.

So it had to be maintained. That meant food, and probably a fairly large amount. Since whoever arranged this wouldn't want to constantly be attracting attention with caravans coming and going, they had to have an enduring presence here.

Which meant they had a way to deal with the guard dog. Probably avoid it, since it wouldn't come out too far to get them. A safe path past the brute.

She drifted away from the group, searching the crags along the edges of the oasis for signs of passage.

(Just gonna roll Perception to start; if you want a different skill I shall roll it as well! [roll0])

Amina could make out the elevated entrances to the caves that Ajan drew to their attention, and there were signs of weathering on the stones surrounding the ponds and leading up to the caves from decades upon decades of use by travelers.

Some of the crags sheltered from the desert winds bear tracks from desert animals – gazelles, jackals, hyenas, snakes, and lizards. After traversing several of the crags, Amina came upon a tangle of chaotic footprints in a heavily shaded slot canyon. A vicious fight occurred here, judging from the slashes along the sandstone walls, shattered helmets, and torn bits of cloth. Eyes of a jackal flashed in the moonlight further into the slot canyon, and it scampered away, revealing the hand of a body partially buried in sand that it was gnawing upon.

Akilah motions for her cousin to take the camels reigns, "I will heal the creature anyone else who requires it." she said, loud enough for all to hear. Looking at her cousin she nods at his compliment of her companions skills.
"Your men are brave as well, no average man would stand and face such a beast, let alone throw themselves between it and me. Thank you cousin. We can check the caves once we've collected ourselves."

After she has finished healing those who require it, Akilah moves over to see the device that has her companions so excited. Hearing Sal's comment about genie prison she say, "Have you built such a contraption before? A genie prison? One might come in handy where we're going." Akilah spoke in all seriousness as she looked over the strange device. "Another thing to muse over late night in the tent?"
[sblock=OOC]Let me know who comes and i shall tailor the spell I use off that number.[/sblock]
