D&D General Alleged disgruntled NuTSR insider spills the beans.

The allegations of LaNasa going after Luke Gygax trying to mess up his military pension was new to me. Anyone know what that's about?

I thinks it's related to the lawsuit that started last year involving Luke and GaryCon. D&D General - Luke Gygax statement about recent GaryCon concerns.

The real meat of the lawsuit is about Servotronics and their CEO Ken Trbovich. Ken was previously heavily involved in GaryCon, and part of the lawsuit is that he was misusing Servotronics funds for his personal gain. This includes money he spent on GaryCon as well as some less than legal wining-and-dining activities that allegedly took place (possibly over the course of the con).

The part where it overlaps his Luke's military pension is that GaryCon did charitable auctions for The Wounded Warrior Project. If it can be proven that Ken illegally channeled funds to Luke that lead to illegal practices for charity fundraising, it could get Luke in trouble with the WWP and, theoretically, with his veteran status.

But there's a lot of dots to connect there, and it's all based in family drama within Servotronics. Trbovich is no longer part of GaryCon. It may be annoying for Luke to disentangle himself from the mess, but I doubt it would go that badly (unless there are some serious details we haven't heard about yet).

I don't see how. WW and the military are completely separate entities. They'd have to prove Luke engaged in conduct unbecoming of an officer to get the military involved in any way, and even then, it wouldn't necessarily impact his pension at all. Nothing would impact his veteran status. That would never change, even if they gave him an other-than honorable discharge (which I very much doubt they'd do). Honestly, I very much doubt the Army even cares, especially since Luke recently retired.

To give an example of details that just seem to line up:

Tenkar posted a video of himself with his niece on Christmas day, and was trolled by "Dungeon Hobby Shop" in the Youtube comments very shortly after it was posted (see here). RevengeChad has a screencap of Morgoth (LaNasa) posting in Discord "What I should've said was that guy Tenkar shouldn't be even around allowed anywhere [...] within 100 feet of children he looks like a [expletive] peto. Iam glad good way to start off the year need 100 more from him." That post is dated 12/27/21. It sounds exactly like what LaNasa would say in private as a response to the Xmas day encounter they had.
Wow, those comments of LaNasa's are childish. "Conversation is over get your last word in ! I command you !" Like... is he twelve? (No, a 12-year-old would know not to put spaces in front of their punctuation.)

The utter lack of self-awareness (or perhaps too much self-awareness) in choosing Morgoth as a handle is just too much. It seems like precisely the edgelord take we'd expect.

It is... kind of saying the quiet part out loud.

Sometimes it can be too easy to believe what we want to be true. Confirmation bias is something to be wary of. We can all too easily see LaNasa as petty, conniving, vindictive, and hateful because he's already shown himself to be all that on many occasions.

And that's a big part of why I lean towards it being real (I won't say I'm 100% sure); the ROI on it isn't great enough for a fake. Sure, people will do a lot for attention. But why put in the effort to create fake screenshots when you could just as easily use the real ones that are already floating around?

I don’t know. It’s tempting to gloat, but this is also pretty sketchy.

I think we should apply the same levels of discernment and credulity to everybody.

You're correct. After reviewing, it's probably not specific to the WWP. It looks like veteran's benefits (not status) can be affected by fraud charges (or any felony, for that matter). I'm thinking LaNasa is trying to tell someone that Luke was involved in a crime related to the suit, and get him in trouble that way.

Alternatively, there might be a claim that not all the money that was supposed to go to the WWP actually got there.

Yeah, which is exactly why we should question it. As you note - confirmation bias is a thing, and we should question that which matches out expectations too cleanly. Thus I asked.

Mind you, there's precious little at stake here, so we don't need a whole lot of confidence - for now, Deset Gled's testimony will do.

Being really “bad” at this might be part of the plan. No one is fooled, so no impairment to the TSR mark, no damages, just an injunction to stop.
