Alt.Toughness feat

Which version is better? Gives more HP?

Well if I am interpeting things correctly here yours gives more over time for the single feat, but my version gives more at first level and can be taken multiple times.

Your version favors non-warriors more though as they are unlikely to take it more than once and are even more unlikely to attain more than a +6 Fort save.

I like mine better as it is easier to keep track of, but I could be biased. :D

The relative ease of use is quite debatable :p

I prefer my version due to the stacking effect. But like I said, I really do like yours as well.

How about:

Benefit: +1 HP per level, at least +3 HPs.

More complicated version:

Benefit: +1 HP per level or equal to your base Fortitude save bonus, whichever is lower. But always at least +3 HPs.

Nope. I am going to use mine :)

Which I will hereby post:

Alt.Toughness [Fighter]

You gain 2 hp + 1 hp per two levels. This feat may be selected multiple times.

Why I like it: It sort of mirrors the 'more bonus hit points with advancing Fort save' concept, basically adding hp = a good Fort save, but avoids multiclass cheesiness (why should a Fighter/Barbarian be able to access Giant's Toughness at 4/4 when a Barbarian, or a Fighter, would have to wait until 12th?)

I think +1 hp per level has two problems: (1) too strong sompared to other Feats, (2) it doesn't help low-level spellcasters, which is the only place the old Toughness feat had a use

Like I said, I just took the existing feats and combined them into one feat that is actually worth taking ;)

Toughness...

Base Fort +0 = +3 HP
Base Fort +5 = +6 HP
Base Fort +8 = +9 HP
Base Fort +11 = +12 HP

That aside I really do like your version as well.

A good way to streamline this is just to say that the bonus to saving throws is equal to the good save progression + 1 for a character of your level. That way it scales up by level instead of advancing in chunks every so often.
