Alternity 2e Wish List

Who said anything about stealing anything? Rules can't be copyrighted and how long do you think it would take for crib notes to end up at alternityrpg.net? It's all perfectly legal, I couldn't care less about the filler.

And it would pretty much double the size because we aren't talking about a campaign book, but a rule book. A rule book that presents two completely different sets of rules would be about double the size. Do you think you could fit both the Dungeons and Dragons PHB and WHRPG into one book without about doubling the size? Take a look at the size of the d20 SRD and compare it to the size of the complete PHB, there's not as much difference as you'd expect.

Who mentioned theft? You did:

I wouldn't buy it, I'd just acquire the rules from an alternate source.

By not buying something and yet getting the content form an "alternate source", it is called theft. It doesn't matter if you copy a friend's book or download from a torrent, it is stealing.

And again, where are you getting the doubling in size? There isn't two rulesets that would go into the book. Just the clone of Alternity. Adding the optional rules may add an addition 10-20 pages. How long do you think an explaination of step levels takes?

Perhaps you aren't aware of the fact that rules cannot be copyrighted, which is why all the 1e clones are out there now. A cheatsheet containing all of the rules without any of the fluff is 100% legal, calling it stealing over and over doesn't make it so.

It's not a simple conversion. Just take the rules for skills as an example. Every single skill for d20 would need an attendant skill explanation for alternity, not to mention the fact that you would need to add the explanations for all the broad skills as well. D20 and Alternity are so different that a lengthy addition would be required, they're two completely different rules systems.

In addition, the book would need to contain two combat chapters because the combat systems in the two games are completely different.

I was looking at my quick play rules in Incident at Exile. I think a second edition could easily be like that. With more fluff of course but the basic mechanics following in line with what is there. As I recall the starcraft (unfortunately I sold my copy of that) were also this simpler version of the rules. Simply using the quick-play rules as the 2e is an option. And hey you can pick up Incident at Exile on ebay cheap.

Ridiculous. Groups in the 80's used to buy books all the time and photocopy the relevant chapters for their friends so they ALL could play and have reference. It is no different than a teacher in high school photocopying a page out of workbooks. Most workbooks do not come with a photocopy license.
