Am I missing something in monster design?

I see there are numerous problems (to put it mildly) with the newly-released online Monster Builder, and I don't have an active DDI sub anyway, but do you guys think I could resolve things that way? I mean, could I use the MB to update the monsters I am using, or else look through the Compendium for alternatives?

I'm afraid not. The new monster "builder" can only change a monster's level, but won't do anything to update damage figures to the current guidelines. Using compendium to look for alternatives is slightly better, but still, only three books have been released using the modern design: Monster Manual 3, Dark Sun Creature Catalog, and Monster Vault. This gives you a decent variety of monsters for all levels, but chances are that you won't suitable replacements for the creatures in your adventure, unless you do some serious reskinning.

For what it's worth, the solution I've been using consists on using the old monster builder, which does have a nice feature for updating damage, and exporting my customized monsters to pdf or as image files (through printing utilities, as the program has no such feature). This is still a pain to do, because the software keeps corrupting saved files, so you basically work as though the Save button didn't exist.
