Amazons

I guess I just don't see the need for them to be a completely new and separate race. I'm tired of more, more, more races.

I have an Amazon 'nation' in my current campaign region. Probable population is only 700-800, but the control a pretty good sized territory. A good percentage of them are Rangers and Druids, with a small but growing percentage of arcane casters.

They have a decent relationship with a nearby river town, mainly due to the High Priest(ess) of the God/dess of Wisdom who is based there. Every spring at the town faire, the Amazons come down to trade and to surrender their 3-year old male children, who with the help of the Temple of Wisdom, are adopted into local families.

I totally understand. Every time a new splatbook comes out it seems that six more races suddenly come out of the campaign woodworks...gets tiring after a while.

The amazon, along with my other new races and modified core races, are part of my yet-to-be-started homebrew. After the game starts, I don't intend on adding any new races so I hope that nobody will complain about the newcomers...

Shouldn't they simply be Humans of a different culture?

Out of curiosity, why do they need to be an entirely new race? Perhaps turn some of those abilities into racial/regional feats.

Like [For example]:

Amazonian Speed
While some cultures rely on animals to hunt, Amazons tend to hunt without such help and are quicker because of it.
Prerequisite: Amazon Region
Effect: Your speed increases by +10 feet.

It's been done before. Diablo II, Darkover and many others that I don't know about. I like the idea of amazons being something more than just pre-modern feminazis.

...and I also just don't care for regional feats.
