Good for you for jumping in to help. There are so many people that would have just stood there while she choked. It seems that anymore people just "don't want to get involved", which is sad. So, thank you, for taking some initiative, and not being one of those people.

As an aside, Vermont (last I heard) was the only state with a good samaritan law that makes it illegal to NOT HELP. Turn your back, go to jail.

Most state's good samaritan laws protect good samaritans in the event of...well, if they get blamed for something in the course of trying to help.

We don't have any such laws in Canada (that I'm aware of). We're perfectly free to kill people with our good intentions and incomptence.

If you never took a CPR class...but saw CPR on Baywatch...yeah, you're getting sued. Any training at all, you're fine.


I've performed the Heimlich on myself once. Chewing on a small piece of plastic, like a screw cover, choked, alone. That's scarey! But it is amazing how hard you can throw yourself over a chairback when you think you're going to die.
