Angel [10-22-03] (Spoilers, of course)

LightPhoenix

First Post
Well, I must say that I'm disappointed with this episode as well.

Yippee, another Spike-centric show. Alright starting to feel like there's too much of him. The story wasn't even that great either. And he loved Buffy so much he's gonna start hitting on Fred. Riiiiiiiiiight. I never watched Buffy, but I hope all the people who did are happy with this concept of continuity.

Frankly, Fred isn't even that hot. And she still has all the depth of a piece of paper.

They killed Lilah why again? She was by far the best female they had on the show. Eve is terribly annoying. Hopefully next week will be better...

Since there wasn't much of Gunn or Wesley, I can only point out one thing. No need to have Gunn say EVERY EPISODE he got the knowledge from W&H. We know! We watch the show! That scene would have gone just as smooth if he hadn't mentioned it, if not more.

Where the hell did this Angel/Eve thing come from? Geez.

Finally, the story itself was terribly bland. I was flipping back and forth between this and the World Series, and I don't even like baseball.

At least next week's episode looks like it could be pretty good. We'll see though.

I actually liked tonight's episode.

It was the first time Spike's presence in Angel didn't annoy me. For the amount of camera time he's been getting, you'd think the show was named "Spike".

I certainly was disappointed. I was hoping that this would be a Spike-centric episode just so we could get it out of the way. Maybe there's a struggle to come up with compelling storylines now that Angel owns a business.

I liked it too, Mercule. I thought it was scary and atmospheric. There wasn't a lot of humor in tonight's ep, and while I think humor on Angel is usually quite good, I was worried that the writers might be leaning on that too heavily in the last few shows. I felt this ep showed they could do a good dramatic, scary episode. Although the bit about Spike's poetry was a riot.

I didn't really feel, as you did LightPhoenix, that the way Spike was talking to Fred was out of character. By the end of Buffy, Spike had pretty much figured out that Buffy would never really love him. The scene where he's trying to talk to Fred in her lab and she can't hear him, I think, summed up his feelings for Fred: he was touched that someone he barely knew would try to save him from Hell.

Well, seeing as how I don't watch Buffy, I wouldn't have known that. That assuages a bit of my fear about the Spike character. At least him and Angel aren't fighting over Fred....

Spike just has a high Q rating, bad boy wins every time over dark brooding good guy. Fred not hot, she is cute and has smarts, that is sexy (to me that is) but they have not really done anything with her, now I would love to see her and Harm have an adventure together, that could be fun, girls night out and gone wild. :)

Gunn, sorry his character is lame now, he lacks something. They should have made him head of security and have him having conflicts with Spike and Angel.

Over all the show was so-so, been watching the re-runs on TNT and you can see the differents in the seasons.

I really liked this episode. I liked how dark it was, I liked that it did not end all happy, I liked the beginning of bonding with Spike & Angel. It may be the beginning of Angel becoming the central character. Next weeks episode looks like complete fluff, but we will see.

I would like to speak up for all the new watchers who are only watching angel now because spike is on it. I refer to the show as "Spike". "I get to watch Spike tonight". I get annoyed when they waste screen time on mr dark and brooding and take the spotlight off my platnium blond boy toy. I say things during episodes which cause my fiance to give me fake pouty faces. I never watched Angel before and started ONLY because of spike and will now watch it religiously.

I'm EVIL I tell you!!!!! PURE EVIL!!! look upon the face of your enemy, the enemy of all that is good and continuitous and built up over seasons of your dedication! Cower before my shallowness and market driven hype! See a Spike fangirl and DESPAIR!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hmmmmmm.... replays lovely memories of naked spikey goodness.... :D

In case anyone was wondering why WB forced Joss to sign Spike on to the show :D....

I was pretty surprised that the episode got a warning for "partial nudity." Usually in TVspeak, "partial nudity" means "a butt." No butts! We've seen at least that much of Marsters on Buffy already with no warnings. If you're going to pander, by God, pander -- don't go all (pardon the expression) half-assed about it.

Other than the gratuitous warning, I thought it was a decent episode. Spike actually has an interesting story-arc, one that doesn't embarrass the actor; Fred shows her cojones in a great scene ("And his dreamy eyes, and his beautiful hair -- HOW STUPID DO YOU THINK I AM?!"); and Angel's corruption by W&H is further set up by the final scene, in which he relishes condemning an admittedly despicable human to eternal torment.

One question: why are the walls in the laboratory's shower made of glass? Do the other scientists like to hang out and watch each other shower?

It was an alright episode, they could have done more with the creepy visuals but it was ok. I was dissapointed that
it ended up not being hell at all (really) and just some spook living in the basement. Really killed the drama of Spike's predicament for me.
As Hand of Evil mentioned above, I also think Gunn would have come cross better as head of security in conflict with Angel. How often are his lawyer skills going to come into play anyway? This isn't Law & Order, this is Angel. Next week's episode looks like camp trash. Ah well...
