Hey, I haven't seen all of Angel. Should I have recognized that dude at the pit?
No, I am sure it is the first time we have seen him. I figure he is going to be one of those flash back characters, from Angel's past.

I'm mixed on the ep, some of it was good, but it just felt somehow lacking.
Couldn't they have made a call, had Fred delivered to teh Pit, and then done the ritual? the demon wouldn't have killed thousand on it's way back, nay?

I wondered the same thing. And as for not having enough time, Angel originally thought it would take 10 hours to get to England. Since it only took 4 hours, presumably they still had at least 6 hours to spare (unless, of course, 10 hours would have been too long to start with...)

By the way, I love the makeup on Fred/The Old One - even better than "veiny Willow".

A) Probably, if they'd had more than a few minutes between the time they discovered that they couldn't call the demon back from where she was and the time she died. Even the "really good" W&H jet took four hours to make the trip.
If they wanted to shortcut the trip, they should've done something mystical. It'd be at least as implausible as a supersonic business jet that no one outside of W&H knows about (or a supersonic business jet, period).

I dunno. Wolfram and Hart have the medical technology to graft a new hand on Lindsay months after he lost his old one. It doesn't surprise me at all to find out they have superfast jets too.

Besides, it gave Angel and Spike time to converse. And time spent raggin on "Les Mis" is never time wasted!

Thing I didn't like:
I know Fred helped Spike, but I think they really overplayed his attachment to her.

I find it very natural to his overall character. Even prior to ensoulment, if you look at the way he protected dawn and the non-romantic parts of his attachment to drusilla, its obvious that even the vampire spike had a protective attachment to helpless waifs. Fred is way waify (I think its kinda cute) and has a certain naivete to her that I'd expect spike to like and want to protect even if she hadn't been the ONLY ONE to truely care about his condition as a ghost.

my favorite line "So... you think we should annoy other people?"

Very good episode; if only Joss would write 'em all!

Still, I think the episode would've been better (in the sense of "far more painful to the fans, yet poetically satisfying") if Angel had gone ahead with the recalling ceremony, and thus saved Fred while condemning thousands of other people. The first person to die, of course, would have been Wesley, and Fred would have woken up healthy in the arms of a corpse.

Until her eye cracked, I was dreadfully sure that's what Joss would do.

But this was an ensemble episode, my favorite kind; the humor was great, and the slow death of Fred was pitch-perfect. My only real criticism of it is that Joss does seem to like killing off the female leads of shows as demonic entities take over their bodies to use as a gestation shell before hatching forth to become the season's Big Bad; the plot is just too familiar.

Just finished up Season Two, and about to start watching Season Three. There's an interesting bit in Two about Wolfram and Hart's ultimate goal regarding Angel. They want him as an agent on their side when the Apocalypse comes, so they're going to keep twisting I think.

Unless the Apocalypse came and went in Season Three or Four and I don't know it :)

Which apocalypse, it's the Buffyverse, if you don't watch where you're walking you'll trip over one.

Hey, KidC - I remember a thread a while back where you were very disappointed with the direction of the show - have the recent episodes restored any of your faith in the Joss-Man at all?

Heh... Early on, when Buffy joined the Initiative, I remember Riley made a comment that he didn't even know that Apocalypse had a plural form... :D
