"Well met Armin-Gedrin! I'm glad to see you think the lack of war here is fortunate. It's hard to tell with some people."

Particularly with people equipped like him!

"Your from Ice guard Keep? What brings you here to this land? The adventure? The treasure? . ."

Kheldar watches the dwarf gratefully receive another refill from the Bar Golem.

". . . The ale?"

Armin chuckles as he motions his ale.

"aye, the ale be ok, but not why I be here." He takes a swig of the ale, then continues. "And I believe ye misinterpereted me words. It would be fortunate fer them that there is no war. Them bein any that I would sink me axe into. "

The pale elven lady in white robes is still in her seat by the fire, her cane propped against the side of her chair, a large leather bound tome open in her lap. She seems oblivious to the various goings-on around her, absorbed in her reading and taking the occasional sip from the tea cup at her elbow. Anyone who peeks over her shoulder at the book sees pages covered with some incomprehensible form of pictograph writing...

Kat finally notices her friend by the fire, and turns back to Palin with a warm smile.

"Ah, good. She's still here. If you're feeling a bit more rested, perhaps we could join her? She *is* very knowledge of magic, and even if she can't tell you more about the staff herself, she may be able to tell you of someone who can."

Palin smiles at Kat. "All right. No 'Miss Kathryn'," he acknowledges with a nod.
He seems interested when she mentions her friend, and he finally nods when she points out where she is.

"Yes... I'm fine, we can go join her," he says, and he stands, taking his staff to support himself.

He will refuse - politely - any help offered, and he walks over towards the elven mage in the white robes by the fire.

The white-robed lady glances up as Palin and Kat approach. She marks her place in the book with a ribbon, before closing it and setting it aside.

"Hello, Kat. Have you come to pick my brain again?" She smiles, then nods to Palin. "Good day to you, sir. You'll forgive me if I don't rise?" She pointedly gestures to the cane leaning beside her chair. "My name is Bianca Ssussunriyh. As Kat may have told you, I am an overeducated wizard with a head full of trivial knowledge. Some of it I even find useful, on occasion." She chuckles.

Kat grins at Bianca's comment.

"Now, milady, it was you yourself who once asked me why I bothered looking for a library when I could speak to a loremaster. And I expect you'll let me know quite openly when you tire of me."

She turns and shares the grin with Palin, "And I might even survive it!"

Palin smiles. "All forgiven," he says, and with a motion and a few spoken words in the language of magic, an unoccupied chair nearby moves over so the mage can sit down as well.
"Knowledge is what makes a mage powerful," he says with a chuckle. "Be it trivial or not."
He lifts up his staff and shows Bianca the runes adorning the length of it.

"Kat here told me you might be capable of telling me what these runes allow the staff to do... Or that you might point me in the direction of someone who does."
Palin runs his hand down the aged wood, and he sighs softly. "So far, I have been able to determine that the staff increases the force of a blow... But that is all."

"Let's have a look, then..."

Taking the staff in her hands, she gently turns it over, her brilliant ruby-red eyes narrowing as she peers closely at the runes.

"Hmm... that's odd. The runes appear to be a stylized version of Auld Wyrmish, the precursor to the contemporary Draconic tongue, but I'm afraid I can't read them. That would indicate that while the text is Draconic, the language itself is not."

She looks back up at them, her intense gaze rather unsettling. One gets the impression that she could stare right through an object or a person, if she so wishes.

"Draconic, as you may be aware, is often used in arcane writings, even by non-dragons. And runic script is used as the basis for other languages, as well. But I'm afraid I cannot decipher them without more intensive study. If you wish, I can delve deeper into this matter..."

The Tavern

Walks in to the tavern seemingly as he walks in a frezzing blast of air ruffles his robe he pays no heed to it finds a table partly coverd in shadow in the corner sits down and orders a cup of elven wine and out of no where produces a perhment ink well and quill and begins to scribe in a illegible text.
