Another day in the Tavern

Oh....I didn't slay the dragon. I was in the process of fighting it....things were going rather well I think.....when I tripped on a rock and fell down a rocky slope. It was a good thing that Dire Spider web was there, about halfway down to break my fall......

Oh....and Kheldar, I wasn't trying to arrest you. What I was trying to do was help Leetah make up her mind about you, but in a more....roundabout way. Had I have actually arrested you, I would've cut you loose around the corner and told everyone that I'd recieved evidence that you were not an Assasin. The last time I saw your friend, she was actually looking for you, near here.....

Think for a second now. If I were actually after you, do you think you would've gotten away so easily? And wouldn't I be trying to arrest you now? He smiles faintly and wiggles his eyebrows....

Kat finishes embossing the book and slips it into her bag, then goes to read the newly added bits of the story. She holds the book close to her face, brushing butterflies away when they intervene.

"Oh, this great, Melynxt! I'm very envious of that bath..."

Kat sighs, remembering the conditions at the places she's stayed the last few days. She puts the book back on the table, and turns to Trys...or at least to where his voice is coming from...and grins in that direction.

"Oh. Ogres. Dragon. And now a Dire Spider?! Keep talking, Trys, and I'll think you're as great a fiction writer as Melynxt."

Ooops...me and my big mouth!..was that too close to implying that the paladin was lying?...hope he doesn't take offense...

Well....the Dire Spider was busy with something else. It took him a couple of minutes to notice me. By the time he did, I'd already mostly extricated myself from the web. I was in the process of cutting the last little bit of webbing to from my legs when he came over to see what was going on. I used my sword to drive him off and hold him at bay while I yanked my leg free. I guess he had just eaten, because he decided another meal wasn't worth all the fuss so he left me alone while I backed away.....perhaps I should've been paying a little more attention to where I was going while I did.....

((I'm here........although I think eveyone else is avoiding me.......

heh.........

HELLO!! Hello!! hello!! hello!! echo fades off into the distance.......

See?))

Unbelieving the chaos unfolding before his very eyes Yam grips his head and screams.

" AAAAAAAAAHHHH!!"

He swings his army wildly shooing away the illusionary butterflies. His flimsy army flail about his body as he screams Gnomish obsenities (sp?). Moments after the butterfiles dissapear the Gnome's expression on his face turned from one of suprise to a look that would freeze a stout Dwarf whisky. He slowly hops off the bar stool on which he was sitting and walks over to Duilya. With the still hardened look on his face he extends his hand. His fingers slowly uncurl from a clenched fist to an open hand. Looking the young elf right in the eyes.

" The Rod............... now!"

With his hand still open he sharply turns his head toward Coyote.

" And as for you....."

Yam's eye's narrow and his voice seems not nearly so ancient.

"... you best to well to mind one's own buisness. My intention was never one of harm but of concern. What if the young girl had activated the Rod and it spewed out a fireball insted of butterflies. The device is completely random and in the hands of a child.... dangerous. "

Yam clears his throat and eases his facial expression.

" Now... be gone before I polymorph you into someone with some common sense."

He turns back to Duilya, his hand still extended.

Kat grins at Trys. Now that the butterflies have gone, she can actually see him. She turns to Melynxt,

"Thanks so much, again! I'll keep following your story! But if you will excuse me? I think I need to listen to this more closely..."

She nods to Melynxt and moves over to Trys's table.

"Okay...give! What happened *after* the Dire Spider?"

Kat waits to hear of Trys's next encounter, but can't resist a side glance over to the gnome and the elf-girl.

...well if it was so dangerous, why on earth did he hand it to her in the first place?! honestly...he shouldn't talk about common sense...*no one* has any common sense around here...

He glances at the gnome, Hey!! Take it easy!! She's just a child!! He glances at Duilya Why don't you give him the rod dear?

He looks back at Kat.... I uhh.....backed right into a band of brigands. They weren't amused to find a Paladin tripping over them to say the least. So I fought them, and killed a couple of them and the rest scattered. I wasn't in much of a condition to pursue, so I let them go. I'm going to go back there when I'm feeling better and find thier hideout.

As the butterflies clear out of the tavern Kheldar spots the origin of the creatures. He couldn't help smiling a little over the situation. Duilya wouldn't take it well, she usually didn't when people yelled at her. . . It didn't seem fair to punish someone so innocent, but the world was hardly a fair palce.

Speaking of which. . .

Ugh! He kills a bunch of petty thieves and he's renowned as a hero. . . I assassinate a corrupt King and suddenly everyone considers me a villainous murderer!

Kheldar would just ignore the fact that the men who hired him were usually equally corrupt - if not more so.

Argh. . . and he tells me to "think for a second"? It doesn't even take a second to know he's brea-* Ugh. . . I can't stand paladins! . . I would add my two copper here but I suppose it'd be rude to interrupt the conversation between him at Kat. . .

Trying to get all the negative thoughts out of his head, Kheldar looks towards the girl Kat had been talking too. He had never seen her until today, perhaps it would be a good idea to introduce himself. . . Kat had also passed the young artist a ring, he wanted a closer look at it. . .

Kheldar moves away from the bar, stops for a moment to read the black book Melynxt had chained to the tavern board, then approaches Melynxt's table.

"Good morning my lady, my name's Kheldar Devaentar, slightly ticked-off rogue at the moment. . . may I join you at your table? Or would you rather listen to the. . . *Kheldar stops himself from saying hot air*. . . ah, to the paladin over there?"

"Hmmm. I'm not much for fighting brigands, but if you need help finding their hideout, I'm fairly good at tracking. And I'd be glad to come."

Kat studies Trys, wondering if he really would be willing to have her tag along. If he does kill the bandits...somehow she thinks he might not be as interested as she would be in searching their effects.

She notices the tooth Trys left on the table and raises an eyebrow.

"Is this from the dragon? May I see it? You should be able to get a pretty penny for it from some alchemist or mage or other. They must use dragon teeth in all sorts of potions and spells. And they can't be easy to come by."
