I've played in Diaglo's game for five years and I could definitely see 20 players. We've had over 10 at one time and that was pushing it, but that was without a Caller. Using a Caller changes the game in considerable ways, not just strategically sensible combat. In short, it's the group interacting with itself with the assistance of a Referee versus a group of individuals all vying for one person's attention.I'm not saying a group of 20 isn't workable, but optimal? Heh![]()

A spokesperson for the party to the DM. When you have a group that size you need more oganization to keep things running smoothly, so you have a caller to sort out what all the team are doing, in what order and convey it to the DM.Please pardon my ignorance, could you explain to me what is a Caller?

The other important role that has since been lost to common play is of course the mapmaker. Equally important, otherwise you may have trouble remembering where you've been, which bits you've killed so far, and the all-important question of how to get out. You wouldn't want to wander around lost for days.
