Anti-martial effects?

Hm. What's a "zone"? Any examples of those yet?

From the article

Conjurations create objects or creatures out of magical energy and are often movable. The wizard's Bigby spells and the cleric's spiritual weapon are examples of powers that have the conjuration keyword. Zones are areas of effect that persist for several rounds. For example, the cleric's consecrated ground and the wizard's stinking cloud have the zone keyword. Conjurations and zones allow their users to add new elements to an encounter or to reshape a battlefield in their favor.

I would guess that would be an area of effect (close burst 1, burst 2, etc)

No, I think it has to have the specific "zone" keyword. For example the black dragon from DDEXP had the darkness aura which was a "zone", but its breath weapon isn't a zone.

Please, it's easy! Just tell her you're not ready, or insult her cooking, or just sleep with someone else!

Wait, anti-marTIal? Never mind.

D&D has traditionally had many effects that inhibit magic. Spell resistance, anti-magic fields, anti-magic beholder eyebeams, verbal/somatic/material components, dispel magic, etc.

Is 4e going to have a similar set of effects to deal with martial maneuvers? We can all envision an aura that inhibits magic, but some sort of "anti-kungu aura" just seems wacky. But if there is no similar way to inhibit martial effects then it could be quite unbalancing.

It's not even clear that 4e has much in the way of anti-magic option. None of the monsters we've seen so far have a blanket ability to neuter magic, including the dragon and Pit fiend. Your concerns about anti-martial are moot at this point.

Well, what came to mind for me right away is that one of the Misfortune tree talents of the Scoundrel in Star Wars Saga is the ability to create chaos that disrupts enemy morale bonuses. So, "whacky" might be the operative word here.

This.
Having power-source specific countermeasures just screw players choosing a class based on that power-source. Countermeasures that affect all player characters equally are a lot better.

Having your entire group shut down by something is much much worse than just having your character shut down.

Which is probably why there's no longer such things as antimagic, and conditions like stun are heavily nerfed in 4E.
