Any BESM D20 fans in the house?

Beyond that, the system has a few things that seem slightly odd. Absolutely nothing on Face/Reach or Space/Reach for characters that I saw, for example. Likewise, movement and such isn't in terms of 5-foot blocks, which can make for some odd movement rates. How does it help your character to have a slightly higher Dex so you can move 48 feet per round as opposed to 45?

The thing to keep in mind is that BESM d20 makes the assumption that miniatures are not being used (unlike D&D and other d20 games). Thus, rules on facing, reach, and such would not be quite as applicable. In the case of BESM d20 and looking at GoO's previous BESM games (none of which use minis), that approach makes sense. Last I checked, there's no plans on anyone's part to put out anime-themed minis (the closest thing you'll get are imported Kubrick figures and knock-offs), so why create rules for something that most likely won't exist? There's also the matter of GoO's apparent philosophy towards RPGs in that it's all in your head.

I do agree on your point that there should be a monster or menace book for BESM d20. A book on creatures out of Japanese mythology would make for such a book. Either that, or clear guidelines for converting creatures & NPCs back and forth between BESM d20 and more conventional d20 products as well as the creation of such.

Seems to me that such a book would be fairly easy to write, and most likely easily published under GoO's Magnum Opus program.

I'll bet that if GoO doesn't have one under construction themselves you'll see one pretty soon.

Tim.

Hey there are lots of places nowadays that sell gashapon! Those would make cool minis :D

It's not minis, per se, its just that I've found you tend to need something physical for placement.

I've never collected minis, and neither did anyone in my last group. We used colored stones and some leftover dice as markers for characters on a dry erase board when we gamed. Beyond that, it was all in our heads. But the fact of the matter is that when it came to combat, we really needed those markers. Otherwise, things became forgotten, it was difficult to tell who was how far away from who, etc.

I recognize that minis aren't needed to table-top RPG, but when the combat system is that intricate, you need to have an eye towards the fact that some physical markers are going to be on the game table. This is compounded by the fact that BESM d20 is still d20, which, as you said, focuses on minis. BESM d20 may not rely on minis, but it doesn't have the luxury of thinking that way when using the d20 system, since that system is mini-specific.

GoO wouldn't have to put out anime-themed minis...they should just recognize that people are going to use something approximating the use of physical placement markers in their d20 gaming.
