Any other hobbies cause you to lose players?

Have you lost tabletop rpg gaming group members to any of these?

I rarely ever loose a player. The last three players I've lost over the past six years were all removed by myself and the group. Earlier on, when we were younger I lost players to life changes (jobs, etc). I can't say that I've ever lost a player due to a more interesting hobby. There isn't a more interesting hobby. ;)

MMORPGs plus night shift work or retail work has torn some players away from our games temporarily (sometimes for more than a year though). It's a deadly combination, I tell you.

I have only lost two players and both of those were to their jobs taking more of their time and them stopping play to have a little of their "own" time left.

I have had games lose players due to: new spouses (wife and husband), new children, new jobs, new locations (they moved), and new education opportunities (grad school, doctoral thesis work, etc.), but never to any of the categories you mentioned.

World of Warcraft is decimating the local gaming(role-playing and wargaming) populations. My group has suffered casualties and the guys that used play at the FLGS are gone becuase of WoW.

I'm a fan of CCGs, because Magic took a bunch of D&D players I knew who weren't really interested in Role Playing out of the game. This was back in 1993, and a majority of them never came back.

I've also lost players to MMORPGs, but never long-term nor permanently.

The hobby that has had the most impact on our gaming groups, however, has been this new-fnagled thing called 'child-rearing'. It seems gamers get involved in this hobby through their spouses, generally, then buy a house far away where they get fully absorbed in raising children. What a strange hobby to consume all your time.
