Any Warlocks that *didn't* get Vitriolic Blast?

Another trick is to take the three feats Spell Penetration, Greater Spell Penetration, and the Complete ARcane one that lets you "take 10" on caster level checks. In effect, you get to "take 14", which often is good enough to beat the SR of CR-appropriate opponents.

Well, it's good enough to beat the SR of CR-appropriate opponents ... unless you're regularly facing golems and their oh-so-pesky magic immunity. Then you're stuck with 3 feats that could have been better used to buff your Use Magic Device capabilities (for wands/staves of the no-SR Conjuration orb spells, in addition to all the other tricks you can pull off).

Of course, I fall into the camp that believes that the Use Magic Device skill, not eldritch blast, is the warlock's primary class ability. YMMV.

I played a Warlock in a campaign from 9th to 15th level, and didn't take Vitriolic Blast. While I struggled against the Abyssal Basilisk and ran from the Flesh Golem, those were two encounters all campaign and it didn't seem worth devoting a whole Greater Invocation to deal with SR. As for damage, I was already so far behind the Paladin and the archery Ranger that it wasn't worth trying to stay in the race. I was already good enough at harassing enemy spellcasters and archers or picking off injured foes so my friends could beat on fresh ones. That was when I wasn't using Baleful Utterance or Chilling Tentacles or Devour Magic, or pulling something out of my scroll collection.

If you're playing a blaster Warlock who's focused on Eldritch Blast, then it's a no brainer to take Vitriolic Blast. If you're not, and there are a lot of other good Warlock types besides the blaster, then its value drops sharply.
