I've got a couple friends up there in the military, not exactly sure where (By "up there", I mean Alaska in general...)

I TOLD them not to join, they were SURE they would LOVE it... They have been counting the days to get out since then, and complaining every day.

If they're in the military, they're probably stationed in Anchorage or Juneau. The easiest way to tell: do they complain more about clouds (Anchorage) or rain (Juneau)?

I'm living in Anchorage right now, and haven't had a chance to find a gaming group yet. Riding a bus isn't exactly convenient.

No, no you're not. My husband and I both post, albiet rarely, and we live in Anchorage.

And I wouldn't call it a hell hole. More of a frozen black pit of despair.

Wainwright would be near Fairbanks...

About 380+ miles north of Anchorage.
Fairbanks is the frozen north, being just a short drive from North Pole, Ak. On the map Fairbanks is in the middle of the state.
It's been known to hit 90 in the summer, and I've personally been there when it hit -60 (+windchill) in the winter.

There's no base in Juneau as far as I'm aware...

I USED to live in Fairbanks and Anchorage both. I was there in 89 when it got to almost 90 Below.

Fun stuff.

If you are looking for a group, go to the comic book stores, that is where gamers usually congregate IIRC.
