Anyone else bothered by the falling rules?

If someone wanted to make the massive damage variant rule that would scare people then its is simple:

House rule suggestion:

DC for damage over 50 equals 15 + (damage - 50)
or 15 + (damage/5 - 50)

That should pretty much make massive damage scary to anyone that takes it.

Huh???

100 damage from a fall... DC = 15+(50-100) = -35???

Of course that might be a tad excessive. Since the average damage on a terminal velocity fall (20d6) is 70 damage. Which would be a DC 35 fortitude save or die.

well... a 20th level fighter (+12 fort) couldn't make it (unless they roll a 20)... but we are talking about falling farther then 200ft., so unless they have magical help, maybe they shouldn't be able to do this.

This would reduce the statistical average to 5% chance of surviving a fall of that height. Which is probably much higher then the number of people who have fallen from the heights we are talking about and lived.

And the fighter types are going to have a much higher fortitude save then +12 at 15th. Assume a Fighter 5/Ftr Prestige class 10 with a 16 con and a cloak of resistance +3 would be at Fortitude save of +17. This would mean he would survive the fall 15% of the time.
