Those things they call cantrips in 3E are just 1st level spells in disguise. What ever happened to the good ol cantrips like dry and sneeze? What are you favorite old sytle cantrips?

Now that's what I call cantrips

I remember when cantrips first appeared (disclosed in "Imagine" magazine over here in the UK) I immediately dropped a couple of novice wizards into my next dungeon and set them casting like crazy. Nothing like telling the disease-immune paladin that he suddenly starts sneezing to put the wind up a cocky party - I can tell you.

As for these new fangled cantrips? It were much better in my day, I tell you - all these buildings were fields, the world wide web involved a really big spider and music involved hitting a large rock with a stick. Aye, them were't days.

A lot of the old-style cantrips are now performed with the prestidigation spell instead.

What you said! :D

Dragongirl, have you swung by Sean K Reynold's site? He has more cantrips posted, and some are really cool.

they have cantrips in 3ed. they even gave them to other classes.

take a look at some of the 0 lvl spells.

some of the other d20 publishers have included a few more in various books.

whizzers of the costs has too. check out the splat books and/or the magic of faerun.

3e has "real" cantrips (as opposed to "practical joke spells" that came before, which frankly I can live without.)

I liked Gygax's old 1st ed illusionist cantrips:

Rainbow (a toned-down version of Color Spray)
Two-D Illusion (toned-down Phantasmal Force)
Mask (lesser Change Self)
Mirage (also sorta like Phantasmal Force)
Dim (sorta like a lesser Reduce Flame/Darkness)
Haze (lesser Wall of Fog)

Well let's see a game called 3rdd Edition D&D came along and well the rest is history........

Uh, yeah...cantrips were then covered in an even more flexible way than they were before. Prestidigitation (read the spell description; dry, for example, is well within the bounds of it) covered most of the ones from earlier editions, and the 0 level spells added in a lot more potential (sneeze would fit within the bounds of daze quite well).
