Anyone else think food upkeep is tedious?

Doing a search on Long Pork gets some interesting results. Evidently there -is- a type of pork using that name. But it's also a term coined from polynesian cannibals. I have no doubt sailors could have picked up the term, but I couldn't find anything on casual cannibalism among sailors.

For my group, I rather bother requiring the group to keep track of food. since half the group are samurai, they can simply go by a village and 'collect' whatever rice they need.

Only if they go into the Shadowlands or the burning sands of the Hordelands will food ever be a factor.

Yes, we religiously track food and water. No, it does not undermine role-playing.

Of course, everything is moot as soon as your cleric can cast Create Food & Water.

What about the encumbrance generated by carrying all the extra food?

Encumbrance has never been the micromanagement nightmare for me that it seems to be for so many people. Maybe I just have a talent for managing the little details (although I doubt that's the case), but I have about eight sheets in my notebook that I use for tracking stuff in-game; hit points, equipment, time, encumbrance, etc. it's all there. Since the party members in my group essentially have a 'standard' weight that they carry (their normal armor, weapons, adventuring gear, etc.) it's easy enough to modify that as needed. It takes two seconds of game time to add or subtract a few pounds from the amount of weight a character is carrying, about the amount of time it would take to write down a new item the character received anyway.
