Anyone ever play a Githyanki or a Quickling?

While I haven't played either as a PC (I have played a Githzerai - which was entertaining), I do have a player in my current campaign who is playing a Githyanki Psychich Warrior. We are still using the 3.0 PsiHB - so his racial stats are out of that...and while his class powers aren't wacky, the various at will powers of the race allow him to keep even with the rest of the party. The 3.5 stuff in XPH does appear more balanced over the long haul, especially if you are starting low level. One thing I'd say about Githyanki is have a strong grasp of their racial history and culture, as it makes your "integration" into a party of more normal characters extremely fun to play (and disturbing to those characters), even if you've "changed your ways".

I'm playing a Githyanki fighter over on a dndadventure.com OLG. My wife, in the same game, is playing a Githzerai monk. We've got a little agreement between our characters not to kill each other until we've found a way back to our respective planes.

Basically, we're equal level and fairly well matched, but her character beat mine in a fight when they got stranded on the Prime Material plane. Her character extracted a promise from my lawful-evil character to cooperate with her until we find a way back, *then* we can try to kill each other. heh.

So far it's interesting, and it's the first evil character I've played (in all my 24 years of gaming).

Actually, Galthia is a Githzerai. As a PC, I've always favored the Githzerai, though I have never played one. Now that I think about it though, I can't really tell you why I prefer the Githzerai over the Githyanki.

Because they're awesome, duh. And githyanki are all psychotic and evil.

(perhaps I'm biased, I'm a bit of a githzerai fanboy)

Actually, I can't really say why I like the Githyanki so much. I mean, they're evil, and I never play evil, in fact, paladins and rangers have always been my favourite classes... but I don't know... somethin' about them. Maybe it's the fact that they're a slave race who rose up to decimate the race that enslaved them... and the Illithids are far worse than the Githyanki.

I think the Lich-Queen is the biggest problem the Githyanki have. They escaped slavery of the Illithids only to be enslaved again by a lich and whatever connection she has to the Hells and Tiamat. If they were a truly free people, I think they would develop differently and be more diverse in both alignment and beliefs. It would take a little bit of time, but without the Lich-Queen holding their society in fear and stagnation, they would become a better people in time.
