Anyone Got Deus Ex 2?

Was just wondering how this game is compared to the first (it is out, right?). Looked at reviews on Amazon, but they're mostly people bitching about choppy graphics and how their system's not good enough to run it.

I have Invisible War, it's different than the first game by a great deal.. the main character is not JC Denton, though he is a big part of the world and what is happening.

There are a number of techical problems with the game, and the combat needed some tweaking, but after the first patch it works pretty well.

Make sure you avoid the XBox version since it cannot be patched and the initial release has some show stopping problems like choppy frame rates and improper weapon hit boxes and damage.

I recommend the game to fans of the original but it's not for everyone and even my 2.4 Ghz P 4 has issues at times because of the engine and the lightin they pull off in the game to give it an almost photo-realistic quality.

I heard that enemies don't react at all when you hit them, and that makes it hard to know if you're killing them or not. Is that true?

I believe that's the old shoot a guy in the head and watch his friend not notice, kind of non-reacting.

Actually without the patch there are a number of times shooting them will result in no reaction.. my biggest issue was the fact a head shot originally did not do any more damage.. effectively eliminating the "sniper" play style. Some of these problems were fixed in the first patch.

It's good to know the patch came out quickly. Maybe I'll pick this up after all. I loved the original!

Here's the patch fix list:

Changes contained within the v1.1 patch

- Defaulted Bloom to off when starting a new game.
- Adjusted mouse movement to eliminate feeling of "lagginess".
- Adjusted the HUD so that it is pushed toward the edges of the screen.
- Added option for turning all shadows off. This can massively improve performance, especially at higher resolutions.
- Shrunk all text sizes.
- Reworked mouse-based UI control within the inventory and biomod screens:
. Right-clicking will now swap items in the inventory and toolbelt screen.
. Added buttons for installing weapon mods and biomods.
. The biomod/inventory/datavault hotkeys are now toggles (the same buttons will now both open and close these subscreens).
- Added quicksave/quickload keys. (F10/F12)
- Non-hostile AI's will now go hostile much sooner if shot.
- Eliminated monitor resyncing during level transition and savegame loads.
- Increased the headshot damage multiplier for the pistol.
- Increased the damage of the stun prod.

I played it briefly and was less than impressed. I LOVED Deus Ex, but what I saw of 2 ... Most prominent of the flaws in my eyes is the console-style. Big text, bulky and unsubtle menues and oversimplified handling. Nice touches like the manual entering of codes are gone and ugly confirmation windows with console-style buttons appear between the all-too areas. I can't blame it for not running very well performance-wise (inappropriate for the graphic), but I can blame it for the numerous crashes (that was before any patch mind you).

That said I have to set it into context. I played it only for like 10 minutes and never got past the first three areas. Also it was unpatched and looking at the list of fixed things this could be a deciding difference. Whether my friends machine should have been up to it I don't know, though he's never had any problems with games before. Maybe there're options to make it less console-like, but I didn't see them.

/me shrugs. I'm not impressed so far. Perhaps the patch makes it worthwhile ... it would be a shame, if the sequel to such a brilliant game was really as bad as I perceived it.

No, it's not good to know. What would have been good is if they had done their job and fixed the bugs before releasing it.
