Anyone know of a good demonologist core class?

Erekose

Eternal Champion
Just like it says in the title - anyone aware of a demon-focused core class? In our campaign the demon lords are the "alternative deities" for want of a better expression to the real gods. Ideally I'd like a core class to reflect this (with divine rather than arcane spell casting).

So, does anyone know of a published or home made core class?

I couldn't find anything in Links to Classes and Races in this forum

There's the warlock from Complete Arcane, but that might not be what you're looking for. Divine, eh? A Favored Soul should cut it. Energy resistances and bat wings, with good spells.

IMC, cultists who are granted divine powers by their demonic / diabolic patrons are called "Clerics". :)

What are you looking for that's not covered by Cleric?

Thaumaturge in book of fiends is such a class.

The book even suggests a campaign like yours where the demon lords are alternate deities.

Thanks for the replies!

A good question but I was looking for a little more differentiation than just a Cleric with the appropriate domains. Otherwise there is little/no difference from a demon worshiper and an evil deity worshiper.

Cheers! I'll look into the Thaumaturge - has anyone had any experience of using this class?

Any other suggestions?

No experience using it, but I recall reading it and thinking that it was balanced and very flavorful.

I've only got experience with the 3.0 version from Armies of the Abyss, as an NPC villian. It was weak compared to other classes. He needed a level of fighter for the armor protection.

I've read the 3.5 update and it is not quite as lame as the first version.

I've just read the 3.0 version of the class. It seems like a cross between a wizard and a cleric with spellcasting based on Charisma like a sorcerer!

Having read it, it made me realise that a "spellcaster" in the traditional sense is prehaps not what I'm looking for.

Something more along the lines of a class which gains benefits from his or her patron demon (like Acolyte of the Skin) but with the ability to summon lesser demons.

Hmm . . . I'll have to give it some more thought and post a suggested class. Meanwhile, if anyone has any ideas I'd be most grateful!

Converting the nethermancer to 3rd edition D&D might not be a bad idea.
