Anyone planning to go to GenCon 2003?

That's the plan for me and a few others from my gaming group. Indy is a fun town for conventions and special events...I was there when my Spartans won the NCAA hoops title in 2000 :D!!

Ok, then in that case, it's all dependent on how long a time it takes to drive. About how long would it take to drive from Jersey to Indiana?

Well sir, that depends on whether you go the speed limit or not.;)

Seriously though, I would guess about 9 or 10 hours. I haven't ever done it, so I'm estimating. I have driven from northern Indiana to Connecticut, and that took about 11 hours, but you won't need to do the PA turnpike like I did, so it should be less.

I'd like to, but the move to Indy may kill it. A lot will depend on work situation and the like. Milwaukee was convenient to Chicago. Indianapolis just isn't.

Just for other peoples' reference, I got my rooms reserved for my posse for $145 a night at the Embassy Suites, supposedly within a block or two of the convention center (anyone here want to verify that for me so I can make sure the travel agent didn't lie to me?). The GenCon folks are supposedly setting something up for special rates for convention-goers, but I went ahead and got my reservations now just to be safe.

I'm driving from Tennessee, so it should be about 6 hours. I'd reccommend anyone within that radius doing the same for cheapness sake.

Yeah, Embassy Suites is right downtown in Circle Center. If I'm not mistaken, there are sky bridges all the way to the convention center. Even if not, it's only a few blocks. I'm glad to hear the room is cheaper than I thought. I haven't stayed there for about 5 years or so, but I remember it as a pleasant hotel.

ARGH

It will be a while since Ill be able to go. I have never been to any GenCons yet... but being in Indy just isnt good, I live in Green Bay (2 hours from Milwaukee) so it was *possible* the last years, but not even a notion any more :(

Well, last year I *almost* went with the Gnomeworks Co. but seeing that didn't happen suckedededed. Maybe 2k4 or 2k5 when I'll just drive there, I might meet up with a bunch of buddies from a Diablo 2 clan I started, maybe not.

$175  , ahhh well I guess rooms are more expensive in the US.

Oh and for the record $175 is what I pay for my dungeon den each month (including heating, hot water, broadband and all that but excluding electricity)

So $175 / night sounds a bit over the top for me :)

Liquide, there are many hotel rooms in the US available for far less than that each night. Location is an important factor. Hotels in the center of a city are always pricier than those way out in the hinterlands. Then too, the quality & size of the room will be factors. The Embassy Suites hotel that we've been talking about offers you a room with two double beds, a bathroom and a separate sitting room. You get a great deal for your money. I've seen hotel rooms advertised along the highways for as little as $40--cheap rooms range from the bare-bones-but-clean variety to the yuk!-was-that-a-cockroach-on-my-pillow variety.

I'm a big enough wuss that I'd rather spend twice or three times as much and not take the chance on getting the latter. You might be much braver.;)

Well I'm a festival boy myself so I spend most of my summer time outside or in roach infested places. never had a problem with it, but then again I almost never have a problem with stuff like that.
