Appendix J: Anime, Manga, & JRPGs

I want to use this thread to compile a best of the best list of anime, manga, light novels, video games, JRPGs, and other Japanese media that you think would or should be used as a modern “Appendix N” for a Japanese fantasy themed RPG.

I don’t want this thread to be a debate about what does or doesn’t qualify. For example, Sea of Stars is a JRPG that was developed by a western game studio. Avatar: The Last Airbender and Legend of Korra are both close enough to anime that the fact the were made by western companies doesn’t matter.

Some easy, obvious choices are:

Dragon Quest franchise.
Final Fantasy franchise.
Avatar: The Last Airbender franchise.
Zelda franchise.
Berserk.
Mushoku Tensei.
Demon Slayer.
Inuyasha.
Fullmetal Alchemist.
Fairy Tail.
One Piece.

That’s all I can think of off the top of my head.

One Piece (Netflix live action): I only got about 30 episodes into the anime. I liked the concept and characters, but some things in the anime really annoyed me so I say go with the Netflix series instead as it removed the elements I found annoying and is more concise.

edit: I missed the fantasy specification. Removed the modern and scifi recommendations
