D&D 5E Applying Poison?

What is the Skill Check (Poison Kit) amount to apply the poison? Not the Save Roll; 10? 15? 20? 25?
There really aren't full poison rules.

Which is why this thread exist.

(You can read the rules as saying you don't need to make a skill check to apply poison. But you can also read the rules and conclude there is no way to apply any poison other than the Basic Poison of the PHB)

My personal answer?

Skill DC = same DC as the poison DC

If you are proficient in Poisoner's Kit, you can no longer fumble on a 1.

Removing Poison Use?

You can not Fumble on a Skill Check nor Nat 20 for Success

proficient or not - On a failed check...

But you can do this if you are trying to extract the poison from a creature "On a failed check, the character is
unable to extract any poison. If the character fails the check by 5 or more, the character is subjected to the
creature's poison."

I would use this for applying poison from a Vail - Poison Kit DC 10
Applying Poison from a Live and unhurt Poison Dart Frog to your Arrows in South America - Poison Kit DC 15

or something like this

Proficient = Proficient Bonus

or use a Mage Hand to apply the poison to the weapon(s)

Not all Poisons come in liquid form (Vail), some are powders (Box), paste (jar), plant (cloth),

forgot "Gas"

had a Assassin kill all in a inn just to kill his target

From 3.5 -

A character has a 5% chance of exposing himself to a poison whenever he applies it to a weapon or otherwise readies it for use. Additionally, a character who rolls a natural 1 on an attack roll with a poisoned weapon must make a DC 15 Reflex save or accidentally poison himself with the weapon

5.0 House Rule?
I like this "a character who rolls a natural 1 on an attack roll with a poisoned weapon must make a DC 15 Reflex save or accidentally poison himself with the weapon"

but I don't like the 5% - does not count for the Proficiency

1 in 20 chance for applying poison to accidentally poison self

A DC of 10 is 50% chance of wasting the poison and possible accidentally poisoning self - reduce it by High Dex - Proficiency Bonus +2 to +5 and Expertise; reducing the accidentally poisoning self to zero

A Failed Poison Kit Check to apply the poison means a waste of the poison

If the character fails the check by 5 or more, the character is subjected to the poison

This would make High Level Users of Poisons immune to the "accidentally poison self", say from using poison over many years the Assassin has finally stopped nicking him or her self

Remember you can not Fumble a Skill Check but you can Fumble an Attack Roll

A Character with a low Dex and not proficient with the Poison Kit should not play with poison
