Arcane/Divine

Hehe! Well, I *dislike* the arcane/divine split, because both are only mages in different guises. For 4E, I hope they go one of two ways of resolving that:

1) Ditch arcane/divine split entirely and make clerics just normal casters, just as wizards. Then, instead of sprinkling "Wizard Strike" and arcane blasting on the class, give'em stuff like "Divine Aura" as class abilities - i.e. tie the arcane/divine flavour to class abilities. Perhaps give the cleric more powerful abilities, and better spells for the wiz (because he is all about spells, unlike the cleric).

2) Make the split more pronounced. Give clerics stuff like F4NBOY said. Give them spells like "Rain of Sand", "Blightful Swarms", "Profane Presence" - make them more deity-inspired.

Cheers, LT.

Slightly off topic, but in my last D&D campaign (set in Eberron), I ditched the wizard, sorcerer AND cleric and replaced them with a single class called Scholar. Had d6 for hp, prepared spells like a wizard but had access to both wizard and cleric spell lists.

Some scholars worked for the temples and claimed that their power was the result of the divine sovereign host, others worked for the houses and claimed that their power was the result of MaD sCiencE and so forth.

It worked really nicely. I forsee that I might end up doing something similar in 4e once it appears (unless they manage to do something that really knocks my socks off in some way :))

Cheers

Well, as far as the basics of the system, Arcana Evolved pretty much has it down for me. The Magister is what I've always felt the Wizard should be. The only things I dont like are a few of Monte Cook's ideas about balance and flavour, the lack of good and evil spells (well, they are still basically there but under other names) and the like....like the fact that he makes spells Exotic and require a feat for basically purely flavor reasons. But thats pretty easy to fix...the casting system itself is excellent and totally does away with the "arcane/divine" nonsense. And theres a "Priest" feat that basically means your character is an "ordained" member of the clergy of a religion, which any character can take.
