Are hobby shops like porn shops?

You might do well to look before you leap. CP is not a disease, it refers to a brain injury. My son has CP, thus my insensitivity to those who are ignorant, regarding cerebral palsy.

As I said, I am sorry if I give offense by mentioning cerebral palsy (which some sources list as a disease, depending on the taxonomy of medical conditions they use) in an irreverent manner, and I won't do so again in your company. Please feel free to email me if you want to discuss this further.

I would greatly appreciate it. And I would also like to say that only someone loke Sir Edgar (and maybe a few more of you) would actually think of starting this thread. Now, if you will excuse me, I am going to go and ask myself why I chose to participate in this sick and very strange conversation.
Because everyone loves game stores and porn stores, duh.

In one of the main streets here in Melbourne's CBD (Swanston St, for those who care) we have sex shop, electrical shop, sex shop, a couple of cafes, then Mind Games, probably the biggest combined RPG, CCG , miniature games, computer games and games shop in the city area.

They've a couple of female employees, though most female customers rarely go up from the ground floor (where they keep the traditional board games and puzzles) to the other floor (where the keep the geekier stuff).

To tell the truth, I see more women at Minotaur (friendly local Comic and fan-stuff shop) than I do at Mind Games, but they're both open, friendly places, full of interesting stuff, and many of Melbourne's interesting people.

. . . In fact, there are several female gamer employees, and many times when I go in, there are several female customers . . .
. . . The local porn store is a huge building that is brightly lit, and people are constantly joking around in it . . . there isn't much of a stigma attached to going there, so nobody reall cares. Heck, I've even seen professors from the university there!

There's lots of girls, regularly and pretty ones no less, at the gaming store!? And it's acceptable and even viewed favorably to go to the porn shop? Does your dimension have a study abroad program? How did you get to enworld in the first place?

When I lived in Chapel Hill, the frustrated-testosterone level at our FLGS was so high that a friend of mine dubbed it the I Have No Girlfriend Store.

Female friends of mine who went in often went right back out again very quickly. It wasn't a girl-friendly place.

I've heard that it's gotten worse, lately -- but my last update was a couple years ago. Anyone know if Cerebral Palsy is still like that?

How can you not have a girl friend in Chapel Hill? That school is like 65% female!

LOL! :D

Columbia is almost its own little dimension that seems very out of place in Missouri. Its a college town, very liberal mindset, about 85,000 people, and LOTS of college girls around who actually seem interested in gaming. Hell, my experience has been that it is hard to NOT have a female in your gaming group here, and she is often as or more into the game than most guys are. I have been in four different gaming groups here, and there has been at least one female in each group, often two. Don't mistake me- there are still lots of women around here that if you mention you are a gamer, they get the panic face and look for the nearest exit, but more often than not, they ask what the game is about and want to learn more or sit in on a session. If you can believe it, I actually caught three knockout sorority girls in one of the labs I teach here discussing their characters! (Changling I think). Just goes to show you not to assume too much about somone based on preconceptions.

What on earth is sick and strange about this conversation? Is the word "porn" really that offensive? Has anyone gone into lurid, graphic detail about anything? Sir Edgar made a valid comparison. At my hobby store, everything you buy is wrapped in a nondescript paper sack - I even had a cop ask to see what was in the sack once when I got pulled over. Luckily, the cop was a gamer and let me go when he saw that I had the newest issue of Dungeon :)

Still, I don't understand getting offended.
