Are hobby shops like porn shops?

These have tended to last more than a year in each case with the exception of an entertaining one-night stand.
:D

I really could have lived my life without being that knowledgeable about your sex life.

:D Oops. Sorry, just started writing. Guess my stream of counciousness burbled too much. I'll be more careful in future.

The FLGS I frequent is coincidentally* directly across the street from a porno shop.

* Read: not coincidental at all. I'm sure one was put there because of the other, and because gamers...well...a lot of 'em I know anyhow. ;)

Hmm, This post might be OT, but it struck me as odd that so many seem to buy into the anti-female gamer/loser geek stereotype.:D

Maybe, maybe not. I don't spend all day at the place like I did when I was in highschool, of course, but I can't recall the last time I've seen a female in the local games shop.

Strangely quiet? People not talk to each other? Never seen that. Our shop on the weekends is packed to the gills with teenaged card players that are anything but quiet, and anyone there will talk to you, any time.

The ambience of the store does have an effect. I started gaming in Philadelphia. I went to a store out in King of Prussia, about an hour long bus ride, because the store there 'felt friendlier' than the one in downtown Philly.

My favorite all-time game store is the Days of Knights in Newark, DE. It was run by gamers, male and female and set up a gaming club. When they moved to a larger store they kept the original, small location as THE gaming club HQ. It was great and had a strong mixture of male and female and a diverse gaming population as might be expected in a college town.

Do people socialize with their gaming groups outside the gaming environment? Do you hang out, go to movies, do non-game related things with those people? Most of my social life has involved gamers, but not just at a game. I've found that the gamers I didn't want to see away from a game I didn't really want to game with. Gamers who were fun to drink a beer with, or go Christmas shopping with, were great fun at the game.

Yeah, I don't think I see the correlation though it's a funny comparison at first. If given the option my wife would much rather go into a porn shop though because the people there are usually a lot more normal. There's always a bunch of really loud teens at the game shops in this area (mostly male though a few females) that are always really hyper when when it comes to their hobby. Now that I think about it, it's the game shop clerks that always seem inconvenienced when you come in and disturb their CCGs.

Oh, and not to beat a dead horse, but let's not get overly sensitive about off-handed remarks. I've got a neuro-muscular disorder and I found myself far more annoyed by the people that feel they need to get confrontational.

My $.02...thanks...

The only real correlation I guess I could make comes from the utterly fascinating True Porn Clerk Stories web site (she just quit, too, so don't know how long the blog will be there).

9. New Games Day! On the day the new shipments arrive, people descend out of nowhere to check out the New and Kewl

10. Magazines with sealed plastic wrappers.

The store I go to just cuts out the middleman. There is a room with an 'Adults Only' sign that houses the porn and Hentai manga.

The reason I still go there even though I moved further away is that it has a huge gaming area. Like, the entire second floor! There is a large room with five tables and three smaller rooms with a table and chairs one of which has a LAN set up.

I would greatly appreciate it. And I would also like to say that only someone loke Sir Edgar (and maybe a few more of you) would actually think of starting this thread. Now, if you will excuse me, I am going to go and ask myself why I chose to participate in this sick and very strange conversation.
