Are there too many settings out there?

Come to think of it, I agree too.

PRC's should mostly be made setting specific. IF the concept is good. I don't want prestige classes just for the sake of having some in a setting. Even you have to admit Nightfall, there are a bit too many Paladin PRC's in SL...

Uhm not sure about that...since there are also a good number of WIZARD/Sorcerer ones out as well in Relics and Rituals as well as others. The SLCS:Ghelspad just has four or five of them...compared to a LARGER number that aren't so focused. Plus SLCS: Termana I'm sure won't have that many Paladin esque type Pr-classes.

Well, Nightfall, I'm going to shock you here (and possibly get smacked around a bit by Joe Carriker)...

I actually believe, if I'm to be honest, that the SL may be a bit over-heavy on prestige classes in general. I'm all for world-specific PrCs, but there comes a point where you just can't keep track of them all.

It's not a huge deal--after all, no DM is required to use all of them. (Heck, I'm not sure any one DM could.) And I'm not saying it's a weakness in the setting, just my own personal preference. It's just that, heck, I'd rather prestige classes be the exception, and in worlds where they grow too common, they sort of become the rule.

Well Ari, you are of course entitled to your opinion. Even if it's wrong.

But I will say there are probably a little more Pr-classes in the Scarred Lands than some other settings...but we'll see. (Personally I like Blessed of Mesos.

There is no doubt that the Scarred Lands have the most Prestinge Classes than any other campaign setting. There is, on just averages here, 6 in each book they release. I say 6 cuz there are some city books with no PrC's, and there are those player's guides that have 12+, so they average about 6. Count the number of books that do have PrC's...uhm, perhaps Nightfall will have better numbers than me, but at least 11 SL books have PrC, so that is at least 66-70 prestige classes for the campaign setting alone, and that number isn't stopping anytime soon.

At least these PrC's fit the setting and make sense, so that's a bonus for the SL. Still, they have too many for me to handle.

About Maps in campaign settings...I am on Trainz side with this. I think that for each major section they describe there should be at least ONE map to help guide players along. Not everybody can draw maps, not everybody can visualize maps, and not everyone is as gifted as some other folks on these boards. I wanted to run a SL campaign, but I found it very difficult to visualize the world because of this lack of map help. I read the books, got a feel for the world, but I need some maps to help guide me. I sold my books two months later after struggling with it. I can pick up the FR, use that Atlas, and I'm gaming in a matter of minutes.

I would not ask a company to provide maps for everything, that would be asking to much, but I would like to have more than what many are providing lately. If only to have one to three for each major area, I think that would better than none.

And to actually answer the question: NO!

Bad example. On Al-Toril (the planet which FR is set on), there are several continents that have been given more or less detail - Kara-Tur, Zakhara and Maztica come to mind. Well, Kara-Tur is a bit like Asia in that regard - geologically the same continent as Faerûn, but considered separate in general.
