Most of you know what I look like. That's me in my avatar. There's pictures of me in the ENworld Gallery.

Do I look like a goat sacrificing, devil worshipper to you? Because that's what I was accused of being today at lunch just now.

(Okay...okay... I made the goat part up)

This was my first recent run in with an anti D&D religious fanatic. He approached MojoGM & I in a Borders in downtown Boston about 15 minutes ago and asked us "if those were D&D books we were looking at". So we peered up from looking at the 3.5 DM guide and said "yes", expecting this relatively normal looking young guy to perhaps engage us in a converstaion about his campaign.

Instead he told us how D&D "gives kids nightmares" and how it was "demonic" according to verse so and so of the Old Testament. (I didn't realized that they mentioned D&D by name in the OT but apparently....) He walked away muttering something about demons and devil worshippers.

Naturally, being us, Mojo and I began making comments to each other :loudly: about whether or not we were running late for the sacrifice and how we had to stop on the way to pick up goat blood and that group of virgins...

Onlookers in the fantasy / sci-fi section seemed to take no notice of the whole exchange, but I do think I saw one guy kinda chuckle...

Anyone have similiar things happen to you? Do share...

It was really quite bizarre.

I mean, we are dressed professionally and look about as satanic and evil as that teddy bear on the Snuggle Fabric Softner commercial.

Without getting this specifically into the realm of religion (which would get this thread shut down REAL quick), how about just sharing gaming misconceptions you have encountered?

Its happened to me before...but not exactly like that. Its usually because I'm not Christian so people swear I'm a devil worshiper...then they hear D&D, and oh gods, the world is ending. Some people will just do thier thing, and its best to let them....though sarcasm added in is ALWAYS fun. :D

Never happened to me at all.

Now if you'll excuse me, I have to go shopping to pick up everything I need to summon the Dark Lord at midnight tonight. Anyone know where I can find goat heads on sale?

What!?! Honey, you know that dang bear scares the beejeezus out of me! Talk about your creepy factor! I think a talking , reanimated bear that likes to hang out in your laundry giving you clothes cleaning advice is about as demonic as it gets!

I swear....we did not look at all like Snuggle Bear! Nothing at all.

This isn't exactly helping your case, you know.

Now that you mention it, that little guy DOES look kinda evil, doesn't he?

How about as evil as Barney? No, that doesn't work either....

What IS inoffensive and not evil looking? Puppies?

No, well not in those exact words anywho----of course my wife(whom I love greatly) is an evangelical preacher---& she & her friends feel that D&D is not right with GOD---& as corny as it sounds, I did do some serious soul searching & praying & I honestly feel that as far as the game goes, its just a game---I'm 'more right w/God' than given credit for, methinks.:)
