Are you a Roll-Player or a Role-player?

What type of player are you?

  • Roll-player? You love the dice and the rules

    Votes: 27 35.1%
  • Role-Player? Could care less about rules

    Votes: 43 55.8%
  • Neither, you hate RPGS (then why are you here?)

    Votes: 7 9.1%

This really depends on what night it is and what kind of mood Im in. On some nights the dwarf in me feels like putting the beat down on anyone taller then him and on other nights he actually feels like talking to the bad guys before he kills them..:D

Based on the results so far, a strict reading of the poll is completely inaccurate:
There's no way that this board "doesn't care about rules" - just look at all the rules-related discussion here...

Votedfor role because I tend more to it, but I am somewhere between them, not in fact a pure roleplayer (or else I would be acting, not playing rpgs...)

Hijacking attempt

Is it just me, or has anyone else noticed a tendency for the ladies at the table to role-play much more so than their male counterparts?

I remember the first game I DMed with my buddies girlfriend playing. “Why don’t we talk to the goblins?” what something that I was not prepared for. It turned out to be a memorable evening.

Well, not to open up another discussion, but I believe that is due to the tendency most man have to violence, since that is not true to most women it comes out that they try different ways of handling things, i am dreaming of a day my players are not gonna strike first at every monstrous humanoid they encounter, after all, what did they do besides being goblins??

Hmmm everyone tends to roleplay when its its not critical and go fast and loose with the rules at those times too.
However most people Roll play when the encounters are going to mean something eg vital clues powerful monters etc.
At least thats what ive found with all my gaming groups.
People are quite willing to roleplay the fruity wordy npc type encounters and expound the virtues of roleplaying etc.
However one quick fireball and the dice pop out everywhere:p

So i think roleplaying or roll playing are pretty much situational events usually overlapping.

rule knowledge is often the arbiter of role or roll playing too
If the dm is on shakey ground with the rules he will often prefer to roleplay his way out of trouble rather than flip thorugh the rule books.

I don't really think that you have to have a "I don't care about the rules" approuch to be a role-player.

That being said, I would think I am 30% roll and 70% role.
