I ordered the gift set from amazon. I usually just pick up books from my local Borders, but seeing as how I would save a ton, I ordered the set with next-day shipping, and still came out below what I would have paid had I gone to Borders. (I might not get 4E on the day it comes out, but I can wait a couple of days)

Giftset from Amazon. The added bonus is that they only charge shipping for one item, instead of three, which represents a further $9 discount. Oh, and there is also an additional 5% book pre-order discount.

I'm pretty sure they'll be losing money on my order (shipping alone will likely cost them at least $20), but I don't care.

Gift set from amazon.

I would buy a 2nd PHB from the FLGS, but the LGS is basically an after-thought tacked onto a place where kids come to play computer games on LANS; sure they sell dice and warhammer stuff and gaming books, but I'd say 85% of the money comes from the computer gaming. I don't feel a lot of "Friendliness & We're all a family of gamers" from the place.

I was looking at the difference, and I managed to score such a deal on the set that it is what I went with. I'm going to pick up an extra PHB from the FLGS to help them out as well, I will be able to gift a friend with it when my other copy arrives. Good times!
Heh, that's exactly what I'm doing. I'm going to gift the single PHB to a friend who' still a bit on the fence about it, and can't really afford it on his own.

Picking up the set from my flgs. I spend enough time there gaming that I feel it worth it to support them. Yeah, I'm paying more than if I got it from Amazon... but I'll have it day 1, and my store will keep stocking P&P stuff, rather than shifting completely to CCGs or comics like most of the other gaming stores in town have.

Set on preorder from Amazon, and will most likely pick up a spare PHB for the wife at the local bookstore. (Will be using this copy to build characters since the Amazon set is being delivered the cheapest way possible)

I'm getting the gift set from Amazon - we're visiting my in-laws in California in June, so that's cool. Even if we weren't going to be in the U.S., that's what I would be doing - it's a lot cheaper, even with international shipping, and I have no investment in personally supporting any of the gaming stores in Sydney.

My wife will probably want a Player's Handbook, which we'll either get from a bookstore over there or from Amazon.
