I said yes, but I hope to learn much more about them in the coming months.
Hopefully with the corrections and revisions D&D4e will be at least 5 - 7 years away. If its every 3 years for revisions/editions that can get to be a little much.

Yes.

I'm thinking about posting a poll (not inspired by this one or anything in it; it just occurred to me, and I was posting to this thread anyway...): "What could WotC produce that will not evoke wailing and gnashing of teeth by the online community?" ;)

EnWorld support book. Featuring writings from all the big EnWorld posters.

edit: We love group... hugs here. ;)

As an aside, I do have a comments to make: RP gamers have to be some of the cheapest, whiniest consumers around. Why is that?

It takes 3 years to get a much needed point release, and all most of us do is sit around and bitch that we have to pay "big dollars" for it.

Every single year a "new" edition of Madden, NHL Hockey, NBA Live, and umpteen other sports video games are released at $50 each. And like clockwork, and without uttering a peep, people flock to the stores to buy the latest version of their pet game which is usually little more than a refresh of player stats from the previous year.

Now here's WoTC refreshing their product and adding a few minor bells and whistles and yet the cries of "foul play" are drowning out almost everything else.

Which explains why I'm not a console gamer :p

Yes. Unreservedly for the PHB (which I can always use a up-to-the-minute erratta'd version of; clarified grapple and modern style skill writeups would be a nice bonus too) and MM (mine needs replaced anyhow), and just to complete the set for the DMG (although new magic items are good too.)

I'll buy the new books when my old ones fall to dust, and not a moment before. Honestly, I'd rather spend my money on books with all new content (or at least mostly new content) rather than on ones that differ only slightly from what I've already got. Of course, I'm one of the twisted few who actually doesn't mind penciling in all that errata by hand. ;)

The first two, certainly, even though we've made relatively small use of the ones we have. The new ones will be easier to use for a casual gaming group that doesn't make a career of keeping up with erratta, faq's, and intense online rules discussion. I'd guess that two or three of us will be sharing our copies with the rest of the group.

The MM is questionable. I don't know if the changes will be ones that really make much difference to the two current DMs, and there are only a tiny number of monsters in it that I would ever want to use myself as it is. I suppose it could surprise me, though.

Re

I will have to see what content changes occur. I am leaning towards buying them, but I better see some serious clarification for quite a few spells and the grappling rules.

I wouldn't mind seeing some revision on a few feats and maybe some optional rules for DR for armor and perhaps dodge and parry.

I know I am really looking forward to seeing what kinds of changes they make.

i said yes, but really its only yes to the PHB (since mine is falling apart) and even then probably only if its really good.

but if there's useful info in them, then maybe all three.

I couldn't have put it better. My PHB is still holding together but I guess it won't survive 2003...
