Are Your Games Rated G, PG, R, X, etc.?

My wife's spectacular abilities with profanity ensure any game she's in is at least an R. No kidding, the girl can swear. She goes into a bar, the sailors come out blushing with their hands over their ears, they can't take it.

My wife is the same way, especially when she's watching a sports event. When we go to football and baseball games, I am sometimes embarrased by her language. We can't go to sports bars or game-watching parties at our friends' houses because she gets too carried away. It's worse when she's been drinking. Sometimes when we watch games together at home, I have to go in the other room. I can take the language -- just not non-stop.

She gets it from her father. He was a Texas Rangers season ticket holder and routinely was asked to leave games because of complaints about his cursing from other fans sitting nearby.

PG-13, generally. It occasionally veers towards an R when blood starts spurting, or when the tentacled horrors from beyond come too near someone.

And then there was the Gate town brothel that the party visited, where the party druid did very naughty things. She scared the incubus.

Rated R+ for stark reality and graphic violence.
Sex and relationships have their place in making the game "real", but they are never role-played out other than to say "you take the maid back to the inn" or "she gets up, gets dressed and leaves", most of my players are educated adults and have no need for crude elaborations.

But we don't pull any punches either when it comes to depicting the evils of the world in the fantasy setting: Children are eaten by giants, Elderly blind men are flayed and tortured by goblins, pregnant women are killed before their husbands, etc.

In my game the violence is pretty graphic, but sex is just avoided. mostly cos all my players play fairly non sexual types. the wizard who is devoted to her art and has no interest in sex, the paladin who is celibate etc
I always throw in a few NPC sleazeballs who leer at them, just so the tough PCs can humiliate someone every so often

in my next adventure (this week) there will be a scene where the PCs discover the aftermath of an atrocity committed by evil dudes, and as I want to get across the idea that these people really are evil, it will include the discovery of the battered and mutilated bodies of a family (husband wife and kids), but I wont be going into graphic details. the implication will be that the bad guys did very bad things to naked bodies, but theres no need to go into detail at all. I think both me and the players will know exactly what we are talking about without having to go into uncomfortable detail. I think the grossest our campaign got was when somebody summoned a vrock demon to go after the PCs. Before he attacked he announced he was going to pull the head off a PC and do a disgusting act to the hole he had made. The idea was to shock the PCs and make the appearance of an evil thing from the abyss memorable. it certainly did that, but I dont think we will do it that way again...

My rating can range, but if I can muster a table of mature adults, it usually drifts to NC-17 for both sex and violence. I like to shock in my personal campaigns. :]

Funny, my wife talks that way when we're on the road, dealing with S. Florida drivers.

Rated PG/PG-13 maybe a little bloody but nothing racy like detailed sexual scenes or BDSM. Its all light hearted.
