Artifacts

Alright this is my first post and ah well im not sure if i am in the right section but what the hell.

Anyway i'm starting a new game with the equivalent of a level 27 , level 7 blackguard Astral Deva and i'm getting to start with 3 minor artifatcs and i have no clue what to pic the dongeon master guide isn't really helpfull and ah well ive allready got two +5 speed evil bane short swords and an Ac of 50 so there's nothing much i need to improve there. If any who read are questioning why an angel is a blackguard well its all in my background and i 've made a ritual and stuff and ah well the point of the campaing is to be master of the nine hells of baator.

So thats that and I would really enjoy a reply

You've read the DMG and didn't find it useful? You could try to come up with three of your own, if you like.

What sort of things would you like?

I've always thought that an artifact is always more special when it's campaign specific. I also enjoy low power "Unique" artifacts that fit a character (A few skill bonuses, maybe a stat bonus, and another minor ability). Artifacts need to be cool and memorable, but they don't all have to be ultra-powerful.

Something campaign specific and richly detailed is always cool.

And I make these up as I go unless saying otherwise: heck, something like the Crown of Zariel the former Lord of the 1st of Baator, with heavy insinuations that she might have been a fallen celestial herself. Something that your character as a fallen celestial might find interesting.

Something of unknown and dubious origin, possibly yugoloth, possibly something -else- entirely, that predates the Baatezu conquest of Baator from the Ancients that preceeded them. A ring or an amulet that 'guides' the holder, very obviously holding the Baatezu in contempt, calling them 'children' etc. Gives unbidden dreams of fighting archons and baatezu at once, dreams of being frozen in mid battle while still wholly conscious, etc etc. The artifact makes no mention of such things of course. Give powers and more backstory as you wish.

And things that aren't actually artifacts but have a rich history are always fun. Something like the sword that slew Bensozia, the former consort of Asmodeus, etc. And for canon itself, there's always the weapon that killed Cantrum, founder of the Dark 8. Barely magical, but is legendary to the fiends.

First of all listen to Shemeska - posts the details of a long running and facinating outer planes / planescape game in the story hour section of enworld, and I am not alone in considering him a Master at that sort of thing.

I have considered the rampage through the lower planes game myself, but the things I made were for specific characters, and wont be much help. So I came up with basic principles for Items and powers needed in the lower planes.

1. Protection - High AC, displacement, fortification, SR, immunity to charm/hold/dominate
2. Transportation - Flight, teleportation, planeshift and Free action
3. Extradimensional base - mortinkains mansion or a rod of security type.
4. ability to kill large numbers of lesser demons - something that can wipe out the 100 bearded devils that are sent out, but that has no effect on archdevils or pit fiends.
(as those would be more fun to fight 1 on 1)

So looking at a Astra Devas abilities -
The Mirror of flesr'ouyn'wofoe' gami
This flat mirror acts as a crystal ball, but can also be used as a gateway to a pocket dimsion of eight mirrored walls. One mirrored wall will show the point you departed from. It is invisble but if a true seeing is used from the outside, then there appears to be a mirror at that point. Once inside the owner can still use the mirrors as a crystal ball that provides a -5 to saves vs scry. Once a day the mirror can either reflect your true face, which heals you and removes all contions or alterations. Or it can be used to create a physical duplicate of one creature. The duplicate has all physicall stats and characteristics of the source, but has no skills, feats, magic items, supernatural abilities, spell like or Extrodinary abilities of the orginal. the reflection aslo has 1/2 the number of hit points. The relection will attack its double first, or if that is impossible it will attack those most similar to itsel.

The Mirror was orginally created in celestia to Show the dark deeds in the the heart of those angels about to fall. Unfortunatly it came to the atention of the Lord of the mirror realm, and he took it over, hollowing it out and making it safe a pocket dimension. The lord of mirrors was cast out by Erathoal the Seer. the angelic ruler of the 3rd layer of Celestia.

Erathoal hoped the mirror would prevent your fall, but you were so ashamed by the face revealed to you in the mirror that you stole the mirror rather than letting others see it.

Hope that helps
