Heretic of The Seventh Circle
The proper name for the class I'm working on in this thread is obviously Assassin. However, in interest of not confusing people I named it Executioner. I don't like that all that much, though, to be honest. If I were looking for such a class on the DMsGuild, I'd look for "Assassin". here is a direct link to the class, as it is right now. unfinished, but the concepts are in place.
But, I'm open to other points of view on this subject.
I'm not here to argue about whether the class mechanically represents what you want from an assassin. That sort of thing is for the other thread, especially if it can help inform a subclass for the class.
So, what name would you use? Do you agree that it should simply have the name under which one would search on DMsGuild (where I plan on posting it once done), or some other name? Does anyone have any good synonyms I haven't thought of? Good names for esoteric orders that could be interpreted as an assassin? I'll happily add names to the poll.
Assassin. The general name for this concept/archetype. The class is very much a blade in the dark, but also very much capable to taking out a few guards in a single turn if the circumstances line up. This is not the inflitrating poisoner with no real combat skill. This is the cinematic assassin whose primary competency is killing people quickly and quietly with weapons. Assassin is a name that fits every possible subclass, but is also the name of an existing 5e subclass.
Executioner. Somewhat more focused a name, most people don't think of a fight when they think of executioner. One executes another when they are helpless. This class does that well, taking advantage of Vulnerable targets. Most of the class features would roll off the tongue better, though, with either of the other two names, IMO. "Slayer's Shroud", "Assassin's Guild", etc.
Slayer. Simply implies an effective killer. Perhaps too broad in scope, but also very clearly the name of someone trained extensively to kill.
