At what Cover Price do you Drop?

I already subscribe. If the subscription price ever passed $100 a year, I might start thinking about dropping, but that must account for inflation. For instance, if the price passes $100 a year by the year 2030, I will probably be making a lot more money at that time...

I haven't bought an issue of Dragon mag for over 3 years now. I've been subscribing to Dungeon for about 6 years now. So whatever the cover price was when I started subscribing is when the newsstand price got to high for me.

I do the 3 year at a time subscription. If that goes up about another $20 I'll quit buying altogether.

This is optional stuff. I'm not going to buy stuff I don't need or really want to have when the price gets too high. I enjoy reading the Dungeon adventures, but I haven't used one in over two years. I probably shouldn't renew when my current subscription runs out in 10 or so issues.

I guess when I get down to basics I buy Dungeon simply because I want to, not due to any solid need. So any price increase is going to make me think hard about continuing to be a customer at this point.

$5.50 was mine.

i haven't subscribed to Dragon in years.

Hmm. If you get a 12 month subscription, Dragon costs $3.25 an issue. I'm not sure how $3.25 became more than $5.50.

For those who only buy some of the issues, if the cover price is $8.00, and you buy five or more issues per year, then you are better off with a yearly subscription, even if you do nothing with the "extra" issues other than throw them in the trash the day you get them.

For myself, I think I would most likely buy 1 or 2, maybe up to 3 issues a year. I would have to look at the issues first, to make sure they are worth the expense. From what I have seen of late, judging by what people are saying is in each issue, I am really not the target market for Dragon or Dungeon magazine any more.

That was pretty much my line of thinking when someone said they only get the Demonimocon articles and sometimes an issue here or three. With the subscription price being SO MUCH cheaper, I can't see why anyone would pick this up at the newsstand. I mena, seriously. Give excess issues out as gifts and brag about how much they cost. "See man, three issues of Dragon. that's like $24 bones I just spent on you!"

Internet posts and emails have always played an important role in our decision making process on the magazines.
Please, please tell me the magazines' directions do not blow with the ENWorld winds. Because that would be really scary.

No, but posts from this forum, personal emails, and convention feedback are a good indicator of where the wind is blowing and are useful in our decision making process.

Excellent. That means my triple-pronged plan to write emails, post on forums, and speak up at Paizo panels at Gen Con, all to sway the magazines to where I want them to go, is working! :]

At what cover price does Dragon go from being something you may pick up on the stands occassionally to something you either subscribe to because it's so much cheaper or completely drop?

I think the $8 cover price is my limit but I'm already a subscriber so it's not quite as big a deal for me to continue my subscriptions.

Others?
I don't know if $8 is my limit, but what I do know is that unlike the previous years where I have all 12 issues annually, I'm much more selective and buying less this year -- I probably won't have more than 9 issues total -- since the price hike.

Starting next year, I'll have to subscribe.

$6 dollars is good, $8 is bad. $6 is at the upper rangeof random impulse purchase. At $8, I either have to have money really burning a whole in my pocket (doesn't happen often anymore) or it has to contain some articles that I really think are going to be useful.

I haven't bought Dragon in a while.

Dungeon can get away with being $7 or $8 a little better, but I haven't picked it up in a while. I got all of the AoW stuff and I am currently running that. But I'm halfway through AoW so I don't need adventures at all right now, so I'm not buying Dungeon either. It may be a great bang for the buck, but it is a bang I have quite a bit of at the moment so I'm hesitant to spend the buck.
