Attacking an Invisible opponent when using your sent ability

Ah, yes...

Well... no matter what he said, it does not sound logical to avoid the miss chance.

By all means, we must be logical when were talking about someone who has become magically invisible.

Monte Cook's opinions are no more or less valid than anyone elses since he left the employ of WOTC.

What the rules say goes, except where erattad, gainsaid in the FAQ, web enhancements, sage advice ........

Don't forget you need a standard action to determine the direction of a creature 10' away, and do not even know how far away it is.
Being 5' away means you can know the exact square which is a pretty big improvement.

Come on Mark... logical in respect to the other rules logic.

If you could use scent with the percesion to eleminate the miss chance it's not scent at all (by 3E rules), but rather blindsight. Of course a creature could easily have blindsight 5' raidus and scent, which would allow it to track and locate creatures at a greater distance using the scent.

Just my take on it, not offical.

I wholeheartedly agree.

While I do find MC's thoughts interesting, his particular ideas here don't make much sense in the context of the rest of the rules. It is too ugly a can of worms to take seriously as "clarification". (Does an invisible person 5' away provoke an AoO? Can I sneak attack while "pinpointing" with scent? Can I walk through a dungeon in total darkness at normal speed? etc.)

Since pinpoint is already well-defined in the rules, I will accept what is written at face value. If you want to fight relying on Scent, pick up the Blind-Fighting feat. That seems pretty obvious.

quck question

Does anyone have any viable options to use against someone that has blindsight? (Per the spell from MOF?) IMO much better than scent, since it is 30' and the wording of the text makes invisibility worthless. Anyone found a counter for this.

Aside from dispel magic of course..........

In our high level gaming where blindsight's hour per level duration makes it up pretty much at all times for a couple of our casters, we have discovered that it's largest limit is that is only 30'. That's not very big at high level where your major threats are either visible fighters you are trying to avoid, or invisible casters more than 30 feet away hitting you with AoE spells.

The change in this equation is sneak attackers but with 1% concealment granting immunity to sneak attacks and the amount of magic available to us, that is not a large factor. Almost all the members who can't conceal themselves a little are immune to crits (and thus sneak attacks) via fortification.
