Attacking Squirrels in DnD

So a 22 Dex squirrel with Full Defense, Improved Initiative and some kickbutt skills would run around an AC 24. Definitely harder to hit than before. Until you gain a few levels and squirrel catching gets easy again. :)

On a side note, when i was a kid we had an old neighbor whose gardner would shoot squirrels out of the trees with a .22 rifle. Guess she didn't like 'em either.

You're thinking too much. Observe the squirrel: he runs 5-10 feet, looks around like he's afraid of snipers, then repeats. All day. Clearly, he's taking a move action every round and using his remaining standard action to ready an action: run like crap if anything bigger than a gnat closes to melee range. :)

Yeah, that would probably work too now that i think about it. Just live your life like every second might be your last. Squirrels must need some major therapy. It's surprising that a life of acute paranoia doesn't lead more squirrels to this:

I think the problem starts before the encounter starts -- the squirrel is going to be aware of you before you are aware of it; thus, it is going to get a surprise round to either flee behind 100% concealment or go for the family jewels.
