Attacking When Blind Questions?

No, I understand what you are saying, but how do YOU adjucate this sort of thing?

It seems to me that you wouldn't be able to fairly access the situation from the troll's point of veiw and therfore would have to randomly determine what square he tries to hit.

All this and keep up the pace of combat...

How do you determine if the blind can determine the correct square, Wisdom check?

Since I have exact knowledge of the positions of the party being the DM, how do I know if the blind creature is able to choose the correct square in order to have a chance to hit?

DMG, page 78. Invisibility.

You can make a Listen check to determine the presence of an invisible person, and if you beat the DC by 20, you know their exact square.

For a blinded person, everyone else is effectively invisible.
The Listen DC to hear someone in combat is DC 0.

Thus, a DC 20 Listen check will allow you to target the correct square (although you still have a 50% miss chance).

If you don't make it by 20, you know their general direction.

If they are within your threatened range, most DM's I've played with will give you a range of 2-4 squares you think they are in, and then have you roll a die to see which square you actually attack. If you attack the correct square, you still have the 50% miss chance.

Thanks, this was exactly what I was looking for.

Isn't also true that to spot an invisible character is a DC of 20?

Just be aware of the difference between "notice the presence of" and "pinpoint".

DC 20 gives you "Hey, guys... we're not alone..."

while DC 40 gives you "... and he's right there!"

I'm curious - why the die roll?

If the DM tells you "you think he's in one of these four squares", and you're not suffering under a Random Action spell or something similar, why can't you choose which of the four you want to attack yourself?
